Printing Nacre‐Mimetic MXene‐Based E‐Textile Devices for Sensing and Breathing‐Pattern Recognition Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a Ti3C2Tx MXene/WPU nacre‐mimetic nanomaterial as a printable ink for direct‐write printing onto textiles‐based sensors. The resulting wearable device demonstrates high sensitivity, biocompatibility, and mechanical strength. Furthermore, NFC‐enabled humidity sensor produces time‐series data, which informs a machine learning ...

Macrorheology of cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease & normal sputum

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2009
Background Prior microrheologic assessments of selected, microlitre plugs of cystic fibrosis (CF) sputum suggest no intrinsic rheologic abnormality. However, such analyses may not be representative of CF sputum as a whole.

Age-Related Loss of Human Vitreal Viscoelasticity

open access: yesTranslational Vision Science & Technology, 2019
Purpose To determine the viscoelasticity of human vitreous bodies and its changes with age in order to benefit the understanding and therapy of vitreoretinal diseases. Methods In a postmortem study, 190 human vitreous bodies were extracted from 33- to 92-

Tunable Synthetic Hydrogel Modulates Hepatic Lineage Specification of Human Liver Organoid

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a synthetic hydrogel is reported that supports the formation of hiPSC‐derived human liver organoids (HLOs). Hepatic lineage specification can be modulated via conjugation of RGD peptide to hydrogel: RGD‐conjugated hydrogels promote cholangiocyte differentiation, whereas RGD‐free hydrogels favor hepatocyte commitment of HLO cells.

Postseismic surface deformations due to lithospheric and asthenospheric viscoelasticity [PDF]

open access: yes
A model is proposed for post seismic surface deformations attributing them to lithospheric and asthenospheric viscoelasticity. The model predicts that the deformations due to lithospheric viscoelasticity depend on the ratio of the effective shear modulus

Calcium Imparts Advanced Functionalities to Silk Hydrogels for Biofabrication and Biomedical Innovation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The addition of calcium ions to silk fibroin enhances the hydrogel properties and, when combined with visible light crosslinking, enables compatibility with advanced light‐based fabrication techniques. Calcium ions extend the shelf‐life of silk and facilitate the fabrication of multizonal, multilayered constructs for advanced stimuli‐responsive ...

Effect of Viscoelasticity on the Natural Frequencies of Axially Moving Continua

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2013
Linear models of axially moving viscoelastic beams and viscoelastic pipes conveying fluid are considered. The natural frequencies of the models are calculated. For both models, viscoelasticity terms are assumed to be of order one.

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Ultrasound Viscoelasticity for Breast Tumor: High Diagnostic Performance at the Peritumoral Boundary [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Ultrasound in Diagnosis and Therapy
Objectives Conventional ultrasound (US) elastography lacks specificity in distinguishing benign from malignant breast lesions. This study employed US to assess breast tissue viscosity and elasticity.
