Vibrational lifetimes and viscoelastic properties of ultrastable glasses [PDF]
Amorphous solids are viscoelastic. They dissipate energy when deformed at finite rate and finite temperature. We here use analytic theory and molecular simulations to demonstrate that linear viscoelastic dissipation can be directly related to the static and dynamic properties of the fundamental vibrational excitations of an amorphous system.

Mechanophysical Synthesis of Core/Shell Hybrid Supraparticles
Collision‐driven mechanophysical synthesis enables rapid, chemical‐free assembly of core/shell hybrid supraparticles (HSPs) by embedding inorganic nanomaterials onto polymer microparticles. Governed by collision and interfacial energies, this scalable, solvent‐free method accommodates diverse material combinations, allowing multifunctional HSPs for ...

Electron‐Beam‐Induced Adatom‐Vacancy‐Complexes in Mono‐ and Bilayer Phosphorene
The stability of adatom‐vacancy‐complexes in mono‐ and bilayer phosphorene is shown via atomically‐resolved scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). With the help of density‐functional theory (DFT) simulations also several additional defect configurations were identified. Simulations are also used to understand defect dynamics.

Using QCM‐D for Real‐Time Analysis of Cell Adhesion Dynamics at Biointerfaces
This study explores adhesion of human fibroblasts to functionalized biomaterial surfaces. Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) is used to measure cell responses in real time. The QCM‐D signalis correlated with changes in cell morphology and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activation. This data shows a positive correlation between the energy

Manufacture of 3D Compact Graphene Oxide Macrostructures
This article discusses methods to manufacture 3D graphene oxide‐based compact macrostructures, including molding, origami and kirigami, stimuli‐responsive deformation, and 3D printing. The compact morphology makes the graphene oxide‐based structures achieve high mechanical stiffness and strength to satisfy applications that need excellent mechanical ...
