Soil wetting and drying processes influence stone artefact distribution in clay‐rich soils: A case study from Middle Gidley Island in Murujuga, northwest Western Australia

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Soils that contain swelling clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite) expand and contract during wetting and drying, causing movement within the soil profile. This process, known as argilliturbation, can alter artefact distributions, destroy stratigraphy and complicate the interpretation of archaeological deposits.

From plant to fabric: Environmental opportunities associated with annatto dye for sustainable development in the textile industry

open access: yesColoration Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Natural dyes are compounds that occur naturally in several organisms and are classified based on chemical structure and application method. The literature cites several natural dyes used in industrial transformation processes. Annatto dye is used in the food industry, and its biological pigment is extracted from the annatto seed. However, this

Viscous-Resistive ADAF with a general Large-Scale Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2012
We have studied the structure of hot accretion flow bathed in a general large-scale magnetic field. We have considered magnetic parameters $ \beta_{r,\varphi,z}[=c^2_{r,\varphi,z}/(2c^2_{s})] $, where $ c^2_{r, \varphi, z} $ are the Alfv\'{e}n sound ...

Water-responsive artificial muscles from commercial viscose fibers without chemical treatment

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2020
Moisture change in the clothing system caused by perspiration may be used as a stimulus for smart textiles in a variety of applications. Here we report a water-responsive coil-shaped artificial muscle produced from time-proven, low-cost viscose fibers ...

The plasticisation model of dye diffusion: Part 8

open access: yesColoration Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Re‐evaluation using the Williams–Landel–Ferry equation, of exhaustion/rate of dyeing/fixation data previously reported for and acid dye, natural dye and two reactive dyes on three different types of silk substrate revealed that thermally activated dye diffusivity is governed by the thermally regulated structural relaxation times of the ...

Analytical calculation of the Stokes drag of the spherical particle in a nematic liquid crystal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
As an approach to the motion of particles in an anisotropic liquid, we analytically study the Stokes drag of spherical particles in a nematic liquid crystal.
