Extraction of 2D Cellulose Nanosheets From Natural Cellulose

open access: yesSusMat, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
2D cellulose nanosheets can be selectively extracted from various natural cellulose via precise breaking of their structure using a zwitterion combined solid catalyst. This provides direct evidence of 2D arrangement and challenges the classical fibrillar model, prompting a redefinition of cellulose hierarchy.

Impact of Textile Architecture on the Electromechanical Behavior of Conductive Carbon: Silicone Composite Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 6, 18 March 2026.
A stretchable carbon composite is integrated by stencil printing onto two different types of textile, with different yarn morphologies. The impact of the knit structure and coating direction on the performance of the sensor composite is evaluated and used to derive a model estimating nominal resistance at a given strain near the percolation threshold ...

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 26, 30 March 2026.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.
