Antifreeze Glycoproteins Increase Solution Viscosity

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1993
A new microsensor that can analyze microliter volume samples was used to measure the viscosity of aqueous solutions of antifreeze glycoproteins as a function of temperature and concentration. The results show that at physiological concentrations which naturally occur in the fish, the antifreeze proteins significantly increase aqueous solution viscosity.

Viscosity of alpha-crystallin solutions

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2002
Accommodation in the mammalian lens requires flexure of lens fibres and some redistribution of their contents involving limited viscous flow. Shear-dependent viscosity of bovine alpha-crystallin solutions was determined with the Contraves Low-Shear Rheometer between 4.4 and 347 mg ml(-1), and at 15.5, 25, 30, and 37 degrees C.

Viscosity of polymer solutions

Polymer Science U.S.S.R., 1979
Abstract A molecular interpretation was proposed for the dependence of the viscosity of polymer solutions on molecular weight at different temperatures and concentrations. It was shown that a variation in this dependence with certain “intermediate” molecular weights is due to the formation of typical structures in polymer solutions.

Viscosity Solutions of Minimization Problems

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 1996
Viscosity methods provide an efficient approach to a large number of problems coming from different branches of mathematical analysis, such as mathematical programming (for example, Tikhonov regularization and exponential penalty methods for linear programming), variational problems (for example, minimal hypersurfaces, plasticity theory, and phase ...
