Local similarity analysis of micropolar free convection in a Darcy–Forchheimer porous medium with viscous dissipation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids
A numerical study is conducted to analyze steady natural convection of a micropolar fluid along a vertical surface embedded in a Darcy–Forchheimer porous medium, accounting for viscous dissipation effects. The governing boundary-layer equations for mass,

Passive Directional Water Transport on Superhydrophobic Gradient Textures Fabricated by Direct Laser Interference Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Microstructures fabricated by two‐beam DLIP combining spatial‐period and roughness gradients are fabricated to enhance directional transport of water droplets. The coupled gradients increase transport distance by 160% and strongly suppress motion against the gradient, demonstrating an effective strategy for controlled droplet manipulation.

Wood‐Derived Nanocellulose‐Biocarbon Fresnel‐Zone Plate Lenses for Sub‐THz Frequency Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Wood‐derived nanocellulose and lignin‐based biocarbon were combined to fabricate fully bio‐based Fresnel zone plate (FZP) lenses for sub‐terahertz frequencies. These sustainable FZP lenses exhibit low dielectric loss and high directivity, achieving performance comparable to that of metallic references, and remain functional under environmental stress ...

Plasmon‐Induced Optothermal Manipulation of Colloidal Particles and Biological Entities Resilient to Saline Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The particle with high surface hydrophilicity exhibits strong thermophoretic attraction, as its dense hydration layer enhances the role of interfacial water molecules in determining thermophoretic mobility over other ionic effects. This finding elucidates the mechanism underlying the robust thermophoretic accumulation of Escherichia coli in high ...

Frequency-dependent infrasound absorption in the thermosphere and conservative energy-deposition limits

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
We present a simplified theoretical model to examine the frequency-dependent attenuation of infrasound propagating vertically through Earth’s upper atmosphere.
