Influence of viscous dissipation on Bénard convection
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1974The approximations implicit in Bénard convection have been modified to include viscous dissipation. It is shown that both the influence of an adiabatic temperature gradient and of viscous dissipation are governed by the same dimensionless parameter Di = αgh/cp. Numerical calculations of finite amplitude convection are given for finite values of Di.

Laminar viscous dissipation in rectangular ducts
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1998Abstract In this paper, a theoretical study is conducted, calculating the temperature distribution in the cross-section of a rectangular duct, under the conditions of newtonian and incompressible fluid, fully developed laminar flow and steady-state regime.

Viscous dissipation in packed beds
Chemical Engineering Science, 1981Abstract Factors affecting the magnitude of viscous dissipation in packed beds under conditions used in high pressure liquid chromatography are investigated. The free surface model is employed to characterize packed beds, to evaluate the flow field and to derive the appropriate similitude criterion for the effect of viscous dissipation. Equations for

Viscous dissipation for Euler’s disk
Physical Review E, 2002It is shown that Moffatt's recent calculation regarding the viscous dissipation of circulating air underneath a spinning coin overlooked the importance of the finite width of the viscous boundary layer. Including the enhanced dissipation in the boundary layer gives a larger dissipation from the moving air, and a scaling law of the decay of the coin's ...

Viscous dissipation in micro-channels
Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2007Viscous dissipation effects in circular micro-tubes and rectangular micro-channels were investigated theoretically in a fully developed laminar flow region. From the energy conservation law, simple theoretical equations were derived for the evaluation of the viscous dissipation effect.

VISCOUS DISSIPATION IN THE ATMOSPHERE
Journal of Meteorology, 1961Abstract Estimates of atmospheric viscous dissipation at various heights from near the ground to within the stratosphere have been published. All of these results, that are known to the author, are presented on a single diagram together with some new estimates made from the wind records of ordinary Sheppard-type cup anemometers mounted on a radio mast.

Viscous dissipation in die flows
AIChE Journal, 1974AbstractThe flow of polymer melts in cylindrical, annular, and slit dies has been examined. Large temperature rises at the outer surface of the extrudate were measured with an infrared pyrometer. Calculations show that severe radial temperature gradients exist in these flow geometries under conditions similar to those encontered in polymer processing ...

Ionospheric Winds and Viscous Dissipation
Radio Science, 1972Analysis of frequency distribution of vertical shear of horizontal winds is reported for 2000 samples obtained between 90 and 136 km. The distribution is independent of altitude when shears are normalized by dividing by limiting shears of .075 sec−1 below 110 km, decreasing to .035 sec−1 at 128 km.

Effects of viscous dissipation in natural convection
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1962The effect of viscous dissipation in natural convection is appreciable when the induced kinetic energy becomes appreciable compared to the amount of heat transferred. This occurs when either the equivalent body force is large or when the convection region is extensive.
