Poor Visibility in Winter Due to Synergistic Effect Related to Fine Particulate Matter and Relative Humidity in the Taipei Metropolis, Taiwan

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
Visibility is important because it influences transportation safety. This study examined the relationships among sea–land breezes, relative humidity (RH), and the urban heat island (UHI) effect.

Comparison between Two Different Deployment Types of Road-Side Devices Reducing Incident-Related Potential Conflicts

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
The carpet-Type materials painted yellow in pedestrian waiting areas are safety devices used to prevent collisions with vehicles and children. They are primarily recommended to be placed on both the pavement and the wall sides, but local governments in ...

The visibility complex

open access: yesProceedings of the ninth annual symposium on Computational geometry - SCG '93, 1993
We introduce the visibility complex (a 2-dimensional regular cell complex) of a collection of n pairwise disjoint convex obstacles in the plane. It can be considered as a subdivision of the set of free rays (i.e., rays whose origins lie in free space, the complement of the obstacles).

Removable partial dentures: eliminating retainers in the anterior zone

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Odontología Universidad de Antioquia, 2020
Introduction: one of the main factors for discomfort in users of removable partial prosthesis is the presence of visible retainers in the anterior zone.

α -Visibility

open access: yesComputational Geometry, 2012
We study a new class of visibility problems based on the notion of α-visibility. Given an angle α and a collection of line segments $\ensuremath{{\cal S}}$ in the plane, a segment t is said to be α-visible from a point p, if there exists an empty triangle with one vertex at p and the side opposite to p on t such that the angle at p is α.

Debating Visibility: 'Race and Visibility in the Finnish-American Press in 1908'

open access: yesNordic Journal of Migration Research, 2014
This article examines Finnish-American press debates on “Finnishness” in the United States in the aftermath of a 1907 miners’ strike on the Mesabi Range of northern Minnesota. Finnish workers had an extremely visible presence in the picket lines.

Development of Fog Detection Algorithm Using GK2A/AMI and Ground Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Fog affects transportation due to low visibility and also aggravates air pollutants. Thus, accurate detection and forecasting of fog are important for the safety of transportation. In this study, we developed a decision tree type fog detection algorithm (
