Radiometric Stability Monitoring of the Suomi NPP Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Reflective Solar Bands Using the Moon [PDF]
The Suomi NPP (S-NPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) performs the scheduled lunar roll maneuver on a monthly basis. The lunar calibration coefficients and lunar F-factor are calculated by taking the ratio of the lunar observed radiance to the simulated radiance from the Miller and Turner (MT) lunar model.

Brief communication: Daily, gap-free snow cover information based on a combination of NPP VIIRS and MODIS data [PDF]
Combining Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) snow cover data and applying cloud- and data gap interpolation steps can be utilized to generate daily, gap-free snow cover information.

Several global leaf area index (LAI) products were generated using neural networks, but the training dataset for the neural networks was sensor specific, and the construction of the training dataset was time consuming. In this paper, an unsupervised domain adaptation-based method was proposed to estimate LAI from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer

The Transition from MODIS to VIIRS for Global Volcano Thermal Monitoring
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) is one of the most-used sensors for monitoring volcanoes and has been providing time series of Volcanic Radiative Power (VRP) on a global scale for two decades now.

Algorithm science to operations for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Visible/Infrared Imager/Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) [PDF]
The VIIRS sensor provides measurements for 22 environmental data records (EDRs) addressing the atmosphere, ocean surface temperature, ocean color, land parameters, aerosols, imaging for clouds and ice, and more. That is, the VIIRS collects visible and infrared radiometric data of the Earth's atmosphere, ocean, and land surfaces.

(1) Background: Fire affects global agricultural and/or forest ecosystems with high biomass accumulation. However, the delineation of fire-hazardous areas based on satellite-derived active fire intensity is not well-studied. Therefore, examining the characteristics of fire occurrence and development plays an important role in zoning fire-hazardous ...
