Visible Light Communication

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015
▸ VLC physical layer techniques have advanced significantly during last decade. ▸ We have seen tremendous improvements in data rates, range and coverage. ▸ Novel devices such as SPADs and micro LEDs can improve VLC systems considerably. ▸ VLC is not just a point-to-point communication technology.

A SNR analysis of the visible light channel environment for visible light communication

2012 18th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC), 2012
In this paper, we provide Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) analysis of visible light channel environment reflecting practical conditions for the usage of Visible Light Communication (VLC) in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Considering practical LED lights (Headlamp and Streetlamp), we perform 3D computer simulations in two ITS scenario.

Imaging visible light with Medipix2

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2010
A need exists for high-speed single-photon counting optical imaging detectors. Single-photon counting high-speed detection of x rays is possible by using Medipix2 with pixelated silicon photodiodes. In this article, we report on a device that exploits the Medipix2 chip for optical imaging.

Precoded visible light communications

2013 9th International Conference on Information, Communications & Signal Processing, 2013
Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology appears attractive for indoor visible light communication (VLC) systems as multiple light-emitting diodes (LED) sources are typically deployed for indoor environment. Most of current indoor MIMO VLC systems utilize single user terminal scenario to investigate the performance of the system.

Visible‐Light Photoredox Catalysis

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2012
AbstractIn the last few years, visible‐light initiated organic transformations have attracted increasing attention. The development of visible‐light‐promoted photocatalytic reactions, which enable rapid and efficient synthesis of fine chemicals, is highly desirable from the viewpoint of cost, safety, availability, and environmental friendliness.

Visibility of unpredictably flickering lights

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1974
We have measured the sensitivity of the visual system to temporal modulation with unpredictable, aperiodic signals. We used three kinds of stimulation, (i) a band-limited gaussian random signal, (ii) a passband-limited gaussian random signal, (iii) a periodically quenched random signal.

Visible light treatment of photoaging

Dermatologic Therapy, 2005
Recently, a number of new devices have been developed specifically to improve the visible signs of aging in a noninvasive way. These include visible or near-infrared lasers, intense pulsed light sources (IPL), light-emitting diode (LED), and radiofrequency devices.

Light-emitting diodes for visible light communication

2015 International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), 2015
Conventional LEDs always pursue the high brightness for solid-state lighting, however, they always exhibit very low frequency bandwidth of tens MHz. As an application, visible light communication (VLC) is not only for illumination but also for data transmission communication, which is a kind of optical wireless communication that uses the visible white

Optical OFDM for Visible Light Communications and Visible Light Positioning

2019
This thesis addresses key aspects of practical visible light communication (VLC) systems. The research can be divided into three main topics. First, the limited data rate of current VLC systems is addressed in two ways. A performance analysis of the most important VLC modulation formats has been described and a new receiver for one of these schemes has

Mutagenesis by Near-Visible Light

Science, 1967
Mutants resistant to bacteriophage T5 were produced both in continuous and in stationary cultures of Escherichia coli by near-visible light, 320 to 400 millimicrons, at rates greatly exceeding spontaneous rates in the absence of light.
