Controlling Fibronectin Fibrillogenesis Using Visible Light

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2020
We previously developed a surface-assisted assay to image early steps of cell-induced plasma fibronectin (FN) fibrillogenesis by timelapse atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Implications of visible light and means of photoprotection

open access: yesJournal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2023
Visible light (VL) has been shown to promote genotoxicity through free radical generation and structural protein degradation. These stressful events promote cellular vulnerability, which manifests clinically as erythema, hyperpigmentation, and photoaging.

Visible light communications in heterogeneous networks: pave the way for user-centric design

open access: yes, 2015
At the time of writing, there is substantial research interest in the subject of Visible Light Communications (VLC) owing to its capability of offering significant traffic offloading potential in highly crowded Radio Frequency (RF) scenarios.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Visible Light-Activated PhotoCORMs [PDF]

open access: yesInorganics, 2017
Despite its well-known toxicity, carbon monoxide (CO) is now recognized as a potential therapeutic agent. Its inherent toxicity, however, has limited clinical applications because uncontrolled inhalation of the gas leads to severe systemic derangements in higher organisms. In order to obviate life-threatening effects and administer the gas by bypassing

Efficient road surface detection using visible light communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents an efficient road surface detection technique based on visible light communication (VLC). It uses light emitting diodes (LED) based car headlamps to illuminate the road surface and capture the diffuse and specular reflections from the

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Topical prevention from high energy visible light-induced pigmentation by 2-mercaptonicotinoyl glycine, but not by ascorbic acid antioxidant: 2 randomized controlled trials

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
IntroductionHyperpigmentation and pigmentary disorders are major clinical consequences of sun exposure. While UV radiation is a known contributor, visible light (VL), particularly High Energy Visible (HEV) light (400–450 nm), also induces long-lasting ...

A Carpet Cloak for Visible Light [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2011
We report an invisibility carpet cloak device, which is capable of making an object undetectable by visible light. The cloak is designed using quasi conformal mapping and is fabricated in a silicon nitride waveguide on a specially developed nanoporous silicon oxide substrate with a very low refractive index ...
