Optical Wireless Communications with Metasurfaces: Current Status and Potential for Intelligent Communications

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 7, July 2025.
Optical wireless communications (OWCs) provide a promising alternative to spectrum‐congested microwave wireless communications. Recently, the use of metasurfaces with sub‐wavelength features for dynamic beam steering, beam manipulation, and spatial or optical‐angular‐momentum mode generation, conversion, and multiplexing in OWCs is proposed and ...

Comparative Test of Novel Fluorescent Optical Antennas for LED‐ and Laser‐Based Optical Wireless Communications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 13, May 5, 2025.
New fluorescent optical antennas are realized and tested for diverse Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) applications. The fluorescent concentrator slabs, based on different organic fluorophores, convert and convey the digital data conveyed through intensity modulation of incoming light toward a small‐area photodiode.

Bidirectional Visible Light Communication System Using a Single VCSEL With Predistortion to Enhance the Upstream Remodulation

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
The demand of higher data rates has made it attractive to consider a low-cost laser diode (LD), such as vertical-cavity-surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) for use in visible light communication (VLC) transmitters (Tx) due to their higher electrical-to ...
