Ocular Disease Classification Using CNN with Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Network [PDF]

open access: yesLecture Notes in Electrical Engineering, vol 1190. Springer, Singapore. 29 September 2024
The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has shown impressive performance in image classification because of its strong learning capabilities. However, it demands a substantial and balanced dataset for effective training. Otherwise, networks frequently exhibit over fitting and struggle to generalize to new examples.

Adjustable Plasmonic Core–Shell Nanoparticles for Personalized Color Vision Correction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a personalized solution for correcting color vision deficiency (CVD) by embedding tunable core‐shell metal nanoparticles—a common nanotechnology—into contact lenses. By customizing the nanoparticles’ optical properties to filter specific wavelengths, these lenses address individual visual impairments, enhancing color ...

Molecular Changes in Aqueous Humor Associated with Inflammation Following Cataract Surgery in Patients with Fuchs’ Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy

open access: yesOphthalmology and Therapy
Introduction To evaluate the anterior chamber (AC) inflammation in the early postoperative period after cataract surgery and before Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) by quantifying oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators in aqueous ...

Augmented Expression of NOGO-A and Its Receptors in Human Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells Following Treatment with Human Amniotic Fluid

open access: yesIranian Journal of Public Health, 2022
Background: Nogo-A, a myelin-associated inhibitor for neurite outgrowth, has important role in visual system development. Trans-differentiation ability of human amniotic fluid (HAF) on human retinal pigment epithelial cells (hRPEs) towards neural ...

Vivid Structural Coloration in Transparent MXene‐Cellulose Nanocrystals Composite Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vivid structural coloration in reflectance and high transparency in transmittance modes are observed in biopolymer‐layered composite films. The ultrathin multilayered structures have unique optical appearance, near‐infrared bandgap, and strong optical reflection caused by alternating MXene and cellulose nanocrystals layers with high refractive index ...

Deep Representations for Cross-spectral Ocular Biometrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
One of the major challenges in ocular biometrics is the cross-spectral scenario, i.e., how to match images acquired in different wavelengths (typically visible (VIS) against near-infrared (NIR)). This article designs and extensively evaluates cross-spectral ocular verification methods, for both the closed and open-world settings, using well known deep ...

Biointerfacing with AgBiS2 Quantum Dots for Pseudocapacitive Photostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that AgBiS2 quantum dots exhibit unique photoinduced pseudocapacitive charge transfer properties, enabling efficient light‐to‐electrical energy conversion. These quantum dots facilitate enhanced light absorption and transduction when integrated with ZnO nanowires, which serve as an effective charge transport medium.

Preoperative edema severity affects outcomes after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty for Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy: a cohort study

open access: yesEye and Vision
Background In patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD), the most beneficial stage to perform Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) remains uncertain.
