Individual Objective and Subjective Fixation Disparity in Near Vision [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
Binocular vision refers to the integration of images in the two eyes for improved visual performance and depth perception. One aspect of binocular vision is the fixation disparity, which is a suboptimal condition in individuals with respect to binocular eye movement control and subsequent neural processing.

A hybrid algorithm for disparity calculation from sparse disparity estimates based on stereo vision [PDF]

open access: yes2014 International Conference on Signal Processing and Communications (SPCOM), 2014
In this paper, we have proposed a novel method for stereo disparity estimation by combining the existing methods of block based and region based stereo matching. Our method can generate dense disparity maps from disparity measurements of only 18% pixels of either the left or the right image of a stereo image pair.

Disp R-CNN: Stereo 3D Object Detection via Shape Prior Guided Instance Disparity Estimation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In this paper, we propose a novel system named Disp R-CNN for 3D object detection from stereo images. Many recent works solve this problem by first recovering a point cloud with disparity estimation and then apply a 3D detector. The disparity map is computed for the entire image, which is costly and fails to leverage category-specific prior.

When is a disparity not a disparity? Toward an old theory of three-dimensional vision

open access: yesi-Perception, 2023
The aims of this paper are twofold: first, to discuss and analyze the concept of binocular disparity and second, to contrast the traditional “air theory” of three-dimensional vision with the much older “ground theory,” first suggested by Ibn al-Haytham more than a thousand years ago.

Hemispherical Retina Emulated by Plasmonic Optoelectronic Memristors with All‐Optical Modulation for Neuromorphic Stereo Vision

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Binocular stereo vision relies on imaging disparity between two hemispherical retinas, which is essential to acquire image information in three dimensional environment.

Magnitude, precision, and realism of depth perception in stereoscopic vision [PDF]

open access: yesCognitive Research, 2017
Our perception of depth is substantially enhanced by the fact that we have binocular vision. This provides us with more precise and accurate estimates of depth and an improved qualitative appreciation of the three-dimensional (3D) shapes and positions of

Relative Importance of Binocular Disparity and Motion Parallax for Depth Estimation: A Computer Vision Approach

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Binocular disparity and motion parallax are the most important cues for depth estimation in human and computer vision. Here, we present an experimental study to evaluate the accuracy of these two cues in depth estimation to stationary objects in a static

Register Transfer Level Disparity generator with Stereo Vision

open access: yesJournal of Open Research Software, 2021
This tool can generate binary files for Xilinx FPGAs for “Stereo Vision-based disparity generation”. With related vendor tools this project can be ported to other types of FPGAs (such as Intel technology). Implementation is done using VHDL and Verilog hardware description languages. The tool is available in 3 stages 1).

Pupil size affects measures of eye position in video eye tracking: implications for recording vergence accuracy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research, 2016
Video eye trackers rely on the position of the pupil centre. However, the pupil centre can shift when the pupil size changes. This pupillary artifact is investigated for binocular vergence accuracy (i.e. fixation disparity) in near vision where the pupil

Reliable Disparity Estimation Using Multiocular Vision with Adjustable Baseline. [PDF]

open access: yesSensors (Basel)
Accurate estimation of three-dimensional (3D) information from captured images is essential in numerous computer vision applications. Although binocular stereo vision has been extensively investigated for this task, its reliability is conditioned by the ...
