Tree stumps from the bottom of the Vistula Lagoon as indicators of water level changes in the Southern Baltic during the Late Holocene

open access: yesOceanologia, 2007
The Vistula Lagoon is situated along the south-eastern shoreof the Gulf of Gdansk and is linked with the gulf through theStrait of Baltiysk. Separated from the open sea by the VistulaSpit, the Vistula Lagoon is a shallow body of water with a meandepth of

On contribution of horizontal and intra-layer convection to the formation of the Baltic Sea cold intermediate layer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Seasonal cascades down the coastal slopes and intra-layer convection are considered as the two additional mechanisms contributing to the Baltic Sea cold intermediate layer (CIL) formation along with conventional seasonal vertical mixing.

N:P:Si nutrient export ratios and ecological consequences in coastal seas evaluated by the ICEP approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Indicator for Coastal Eutrophication Potential (ICEP) for river nutrient export of nitrogen, phosphorus, and silica at the global scale was first calculated from available measurement data.

Trends of labile trace metals in tropical urban water under highly contrasted weather conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceThe spatio-temporal trend of trace metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in a tropical urban estuary under the influence of monsoon was determined using diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) in situ samplers.

Parasites of the round goby, Neogobius melanostomus (Pallas, 1811), an invasive species in the Polish fauna of the Vistula Lagoon ecosystem

open access: yesOceanologia, 2006
The round goby, Neogobius melanostomus (Pallas, 1811) was introducedinto southern Baltic waters (including the Vistula Lagoon) fromthe Black Sea and Sea of Azov in the early 1990s.

Rotifer trophic state indices as ecosystem indicators in brackish coastal waters

open access: yesOceanologia, 2013
Thanks to their short life cycles, rotifers react rapidly to changes in environmental conditions and so may be useful for biological monitoring. The objective of this paper was to investigate the applicability of rotifer trophic state indices as ...

The Vistula Lagoon evolution based on diatom records

open access: yesBaltica, 2005
Five stages of development of the Vistula Lagoon were established based on the diatom flora preserved in 6 sediment cores. The study shows that the area originally had a terrestrial environment, whereas its later evolution is linked with the marine stages of the Baltic Sea.

Long term water level and surface temperature changes in the lagoons of the southern and eastern Baltic

open access: yesOceanologia, 2011
The paper studies variations in the water level and surface temperature of coastal lagoons along the southern and south-eastern shores of the Baltic Sea: the Curonian Lagoon, Vistula Lagoon, and Darss-Zingst Bodden Chain.

Ecosystem of the Polish part of the Vistula Lagoon from the perspective of alternative stable states concept, with implications for management issues

open access: yesOceanologia, 2018
Summary: The alternative stable states concept finds broad application in reference to both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. For some reason, attempts to implement the concept to explain processes observed in estuaries and Baltic lagoons are very rare.
