Fundus Image-based Visual Acuity Assessment with PAC-Guarantees [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Timely detection and treatment are essential for maintaining eye health. Visual acuity (VA), which measures the clarity of vision at a distance, is a crucial metric for managing eye health. Machine learning (ML) techniques have been introduced to assist in VA measurement, potentially alleviating clinicians' workloads.

Do readers use character information when programming return-sweep saccades? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Reading saccades that occur within a single line of text are guided by the size of letters. However, readers occasionally need to make longer saccades (known as return-sweeps) that take their eyes from the end of one line of text to the beginning of the next.

Activation of SIRT1 Reduces Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells Fibrosis in Hypoxia Through SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐Autophagy Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.

Browsing through 3D representations of unstructured picture collections: an empirical study [PDF]

open access: yesDans Proceedings of ACM Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI 2006), Venezia, Italy, May 23-26, 2006 - ACM Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI 2006), Venezia : Italie (2006), 2007
The paper presents a 3D interactive representation of fairly large picture collections which facilitates browsing through unstructured sets of icons or pictures. Implementation of this representation implies choosing between two visualization strategies: users may either manipulate the view (OV) or be immersed in it (IV).

Toward Design Principles for Biomolecular Condensates for Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates are membrane‐less compartments found through‐out nature which can serve as reaction crucibles for biochemical processes. This review explores the design strategies underlying how condensates can be used in biotechnology to enhance multistep enzyme cascades including enhancement by mass action and substrate channeling, and ...
