On the linearity of predefined and selfâanchoring Visual Analogue Scales
British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, 2008Two functional measurement studies were conducted to test the effect of two types of end anchors on the linearity of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) data. With the first type of end anchors, participants responded to the stimuli using a VAS with predefined end anchors.

Visual analogue scales for pain: are they reproducible?
The Pain Clinic, 2000Visual analogue scales (VAS) are in widespread use for the measurement of pain, but there is little evidence as to their reproducibility. We have studied the longer-term reproducibility of four 10 cm scales in patients presenting with pain around the shoulder with a median duration of 18 months. One hundred and forty-five patients were studied.
