Attention-based visual routines: sprites
Cognition, 2001A central role of visual attention is to generate object descriptions that are not available from early vision. Simple examples are counting elements in a display or deciding whether a dot is inside or outside a closed contour (Ullman, Cognition 18 (1984) 97).

Visual attention models-object-based theory of visual attention
IEEE SMC'99 Conference Proceedings. 1999 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (Cat. No.99CH37028), 2003According to the object-based theory, visual attention can be divided within a single object more efficiently than between separate objects. In this paper, the object-based theory of visual attention was validated through a comparison with the spatially based view, suggesting that visual attention is directed to unparsed regions of space.

Visual attention based visual vocabulary
2014 International Conference on Orange Technologies, 2014We aim to build a visual vocabulary by applying a model of visual attention. Concretely, we first learn a computational visual attention model from the real eye tracking data. Then using this model to find the most salient regions in the images, and extracting features from these regions to build a visual vocabulary with more expressive power.

Behavioral and Brain Sciences
Short Abstract Recent research on peripheral vision has led to a paradigm-shifting conclusion: vision science as a field must rethink visual attention. This article reviews the evidence for a crisis in attention science and examines supposedly attentional phenomena to ask which point to additional capacity limits.

Selective visual attention, visual search and visual awareness
2004In a previous study, Butter and Goodale (2000) reported that visual search increases the identification of targets relative to distracters. The present series of studies investigated further this effect of search. Search increased identification of Ls when they were targets and decreased their identification when Ls were distracters in concurrent ...
