Perceptive aspects of visual aura
Neurological Sciences, 2009Visual aura is the most common feature associated with migraine, though it can occur separately. In both cases it often represents a dramatic event, especially for patients who experience it for the first time. Besides, its subjective characteristics may illuminate on the functional architecture of the visual cortex.

Migrainous Visual Auras: A Life History
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, 2006We document, as an autobiographical case report, a 72‐year history of migraine and its changing nature. Minor neurological events have waxed and waned, causing repeated searches for pathology, but instead reconfirming an intact central nervous system. In this case it appears that visual migraine auras do not reflect severity of pathology.

Impaired visual inhibition in migraine with aura
Clinical Neurophysiology, 2015The pathophysiology of migraine with or without aura (MA, MO) is still a matter of debate. We thus studied patients with MA and MO by means of paired-pulse flash-visual evoked potentials (paired F-VEPs). This technique, recently revived, analyses the overall excitability of visual system as detected from the cortical occipital signal. We enrolled 13 ...

Headache and visual aura in an immunocompromised patient
BMJ, 2012A 38 year old HIV negative South African man was diagnosed in 2007 with stage IVB Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy had no effect, so in March 2007 he underwent an autologous stem cell transplant. Relapses in 2009 and 2010 resulted in two allogeneic stem cell transplants, after he was conditioned with fludarabine ...

Relating Photophobia, Visual Aura, and Visual Triggers of Headache and Migraine
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, 2019Objective This study investigated a potential association between visual factors and symptoms related to migraine. It was predicted that photophobia and visual aura would be positively associated with interictal light sensitivity and visual headache triggers (flicker, glare, and eyestrain), and that these 2 ...

Corona Phenomenon as Visual Aura Symptom in Migraine
Cephalalgia, 2001The visual illusion of a typical corona phenomenon was represented as a visual migraine aura symptom in six of 562 Migraine Art pictures, whereas another five pictures illustrated atypical variants of the said illusion. The extra edges of the corona phenomenon are commonly seen around the perceptual images of objects, but in atypical cases they can ...

Migraine with visual aura is marked by recurrent episodes of transient visual disturbance, often followed by headaches. Its pathophysiology has not been fully understood, but visual auras might be related to a self-propagating wave of cortical depolarization called "cortical spreading depression", triggering a trigemino-vascular "storm" ultimately ...
