Statistical Analysis of a Comprehensive List of Visual Binaries [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2015
Visual binary stars are the most abundant class of observed binaries. The most comprehensive list of data on visual binaries compiled recently by cross-matching the largest catalogues of visual binaries allowed a statistical investigation of ...

Visual Binary Stars: Data to Investigate Formation of Binaries

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2016
Statistics of orbital parameters of binary stars as well as statistics of their physical characteristics bear traces of star formation history. However, statistical investigations of binaries are complicated by incomplete or missing observational data ...

Herbig Ae/Be Visual Binaries [PDF]

open access: bronzeSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2001
We present the results of a high-angular resolution spectro-imaging survey of a sample of isolated Herbig Ae-Be (HAeBe) stars aimed at searching for close companions. The fraction of wide binaries is found to be significantly higher in HAeBe stars than in solar-mass field dwarfs, and suggests a companion star fraction possibly larger than 1.

Orbits, masses and dynamical parallaxes of 12 visual binary systems [PDF]

open access: diamondSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2003
In this paper the preliminary orbital elements are presented for the following double stars: WDS 00153+4412 = A 1256 AB, WDS 00470+2315 = HU 413, WDS 00520+3154 = A 924, WDS 01036+6341 = MLR 87, WDS 01131+2942 = A 1260, WDS 01158+0947 = A 2102, WDS 01200-

Orbits of Binary Stars: from Visual Measures to Speckle Interferometry [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Knowledge of the orbits of visual binary stars has always been one of the fundamentals of astronomy. Based historically on the visual measures, nowadays the orbits rely more (or exclusively) on the accurate speckle data.

Visual Binaries in the Orion Nebula Cluster [PDF]

open access: yesAstron.J.134:2272-2285,2007, 2007
We have carried out a major survey for visual binaries towards the Orion Nebula Cluster using HST images obtained with an H-alpha filter. Among 781 likely ONC members more than 60" from theta-1 Ori C, we find 78 multiple systems (75 binaries and 3 triples), of which 55 are new discoveries, in the range from 0.1" to 1.5".

On the component masses of visual binaries

open access: diamondSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2010
In the Sixth Catalog of Orbits of Visual Binary Stars we found those belonging to the Main Sequence to form a sample containing 432 visual binaries. Their total masses were obtained dynamically, i.e. they were calculated using the orbital elements and the new Hipparcos parallaxes.
