Schooling Trajectories and the Development of Brain Dynamics: A Comparative Study of Montessori and Traditional Education

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We investigate whether Montessori and traditional schooling systems shape the developmental trajectory of large‐scale brain dynamics in different ways. We quantify the arrow of time (“non‐reversibility”) in neural activity during resting state and movie‐watching, revealing distinct maturational patterns.

Janus‐Type Electrostatic Potential Gradient‐Activated Dynamic Zn2+‐Coordinating Nitrogen Sites in Molecularly Locked Nanocellulose Separators for Stable Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multifunctional benzimidazole‐terminated CNF separator is constructed via a PEI‐mediated covalent locking strategy, generating dense zincophilic sites that accelerate Zn2+ transport and desolvation while enabling uniform Zn (002) deposition and suppressing side reactions.

Metasurface‐Enabled Active‐Like Passive Radar

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable space‐time‐coding metasurface embeds distinct spatiotemporal tags into ambient wireless signals, allowing passive radar to operate in an active‐like manner. By enabling code‐correlated reconstruction under interference, the approach supports robust real‐time UAV tracking in complex environments and points to intelligent, low‐power ...

Key-isovalue selection and hierarchical exploration visualization of weather forecast ensembles

open access: yesVisual Informatics
Weather forecast ensembles are commonly used to assess the uncertainty and confidence of weather predictions. Conventional methods in meteorology often employ ensemble mean and standard deviation plots, as well as spaghetti plots, to visualize ensemble ...

A neurobiological and computational analysis of target discrimination in visual clutter by the insect visual system. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Some insects have the capability to detect and track small moving objects, often against cluttered moving backgrounds. Determining how this task is performed is an intriguing challenge, both from a physiological and computational perspective.

Femtosecond‐Laser‐Induced Physical Unclonable Random Maze Structure for Storage‐Free Encryption

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Femtosecond‐laser‐induced gold random maze structures serve as multimodal physical unclonable functions for storage‐free encryption. Their stochastic optical, electrical, and Raman responses are generated by plasmon‐assisted Marangoni formation and converted into AES‐compatible keys without permanent secret‐key storage, offering a portable route toward

Terahertz Channel Modeling, Estimation and Localization in RIS‐Assisted Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces have become a recent intensive research focus. Based on practical applications, channel strategies for RIS‐assisted terahertz wireless communication systems are categorized into three different types: channel modeling, channel estimation, and channel localization.

Visual Tracking in Cluttered Environments Using the Visual Probabilistic Data Association Filter [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Robotics, 2006
Visual tracking in cluttered environments is attractive and challenging. This paper establishes a probabilistic framework, called the visual probabilistic data-association filter (VPDAF), to deal with this problem. The algorithm is based on the probabilistic data-association method for estimating a true target from a cluster of measurements.

Searching in clutter: Visual attention strategies of expert Pilots

open access: yes, 2012
Clutter can slow visual search. However, experts may develop attention strategies that alleviate the effects of clutter on search performance. In the current study we examined the effects of global and local clutter on visual search performance and ...
