Survey of Ophthalmology, 2003
A 32-year-old female migraneur developed a right incongruous homonymous hemianopia after taking the antiepileptic agent, topiramate. The visual field defect partially resolved when the medication was discontinued. The differential diagnosis of the homonymous hemianopia is discussed.

Perimetry and visual field defects

2021
Perimetry is the quantitation of the visual field. This is done with a perimeter and usually involves measuring visual thresholds to a range of light stimuli. It is used clinically to map patterns of visual loss due to damage to the sensory visual system. This chapter discusses the types of perimetric testing and the psychophysics of perimetry. This is

An Unusual Homonymous Visual Field Defect

Survey of Ophthalmology, 2000
A 75-year-old man suddenly became aware of an inferior right homonymous visual field defect. Although static perimetry suggested a lesion of the left lateral geniculate nucleus, kinetic perimetry indicated that the presumed homonymous horizontal sectoranopia noted on static perimetry was actually an incomplete homonymous hemianopia with incomplete ...

Visual Field Defects in Monkeys

Nature, 1962
IT is well known that destruction of part of the visual striate cortex in man leads to a visual field defect1,2. The defect is usually described as an area of total blindness although some workers believe that a slight sensitivity to light remains throughout its extent3.

Ocular Toxoplasmosis and Visual Field Defects

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1980
We studied 34 patients with peripapillary lesions secondary to toxoplasmosis. All patients had visual field defects corresponding to interruption of the nerve fiber layer of the retina. The extent of visual field loss increased with proximity to the disk.

Treatment of Homonymous Visual Field Defects

Current Treatment Options in Neurology, 2011
A clinical presentation of a retrochiasmal or homonymous visual field defect (HVFD) usually represents a permanent visual impairment. The visual and functional ramifications of HVFD will vary by patient. Comprehensive care-the clinical evaluation and consideration for treatment of HVFD-includes vision rehabilitation provided by optometrists ...

Prognosis and Treatment of Visual Field Defects

Seminars in Neurology, 2015
Visual field deficits are common in neurologic disease conditions such as cerebrovascular disease, traumatic brain injury, and brain tumors. Loss of visual fields may lead to impairment of reading skills (hemianopic dyslexia) and limitations of daily activities such as driving, which can have a significant impact on an individual's socioeconomic status

Photopsia and a temporal visual field defect

Survey of Ophthalmology, 2016
A 30-year-old woman presented with intermittent photopsia, a temporal visual field defect below the horizontal in her left eye, and flu-like symptoms. Slit-lamp and fundus examinations were unremarkable. Humphrey 30-2 threshold perimetry and 120-point screening visual field demonstrated blind spot enlargement of the left eye and a normal field in the ...
