Learning Visual Features from Snapshots for Web Search

open access: yes, 2017
When applying learning to rank algorithms to Web search, a large number of features are usually designed to capture the relevance signals. Most of these features are computed based on the extracted textual elements, link analysis, and user logs. However,

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Using audio and visual information for single channel speaker separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This work proposes a method to exploit both audio and vi- sual speech information to extract a target speaker from a mix- ture of competing speakers. The work begins by taking an ef- fective audio-only method of speaker separation, namely the soft mask ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Operability Improvement of Human-Machine Systems by Altering Visual Information: A Case-Study of the Inverted Pendulum

open access: yesIEEE Access
When humans operate machines such as cars and drones based on visual information, it is essential to improve the subjective operational feeling, avoid failures, and reduce the learning time, in other words, to improve operability.

Visual Information Retrieval in Digital Libraries [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The emergence of information highways and multimedia computing has resulted in redefining the concept of libraries. It is widely believed that in the next few years, a significant portion of information in libraries will be in the form of multimedia ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

The Optimization of PID Controller and Color Filter Parameters with a Genetic Algorithm for Pineapple Tracking Using an ROS2 and MicroROS-Based Robotic Head

open access: yesComputation
This work proposes a vision system mounted on the head of an omnidirectional robot to track pineapples and maintain them at the center of its field of view. The robot head is equipped with a pan–tilt unit that facilitates dynamic adjustments.

The Role of Landscapes and Landmarks in Bee Navigation: A Review

open access: yesInsects, 2019
The ability of animals to explore landmarks in their environment is essential to their fitness. Landmarks are widely recognized to play a key role in navigation by providing information in multiple sensory modalities. However, what is a landmark?

Perception and control of rotorcraft flight [PDF]

open access: yes
Three topics which can be applied to rotorcraft flight are examined: (1) the nature of visual information; (2) what visual information is informative about; and (3) the control of visual information.
