Multimodal LLM Augmented Reasoning for Interpretable Visual Perception Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In this paper, we advance the study of AI-augmented reasoning in the context of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), psychology and cognitive science, focusing on the critical task of visual perception. Specifically, we investigate the applicability of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) in this domain. To this end, we leverage established principles

Sustainable Smart Packaging from Protein Nanofibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Smart packaging can extend shelf life and improve food quality monitoring. This study introduces a novel smart packaging solution using amyloid fibrils and red radish anthocyanins to monitor seafood spoilage. These findings show that these films effectively indicate shrimp freshness and possess high antibacterial and antioxidant properties, offering a ...

Chiroferromagnetic Quantum Dots for Chiroptical Synapse (ChiropS)

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiroptical activity is enhanced by up to 0.003 in the g‐factor through the induction of ferromagnetism in quantum dots. A chiroptical neuromorphic synapse, composed of chiroferromagnetic quantum dots, generates different synaptic weights from multiple wavelengths and circularly polarized light.

"They Aren't Built For Me": A Replication Study of Visual Graphical Perception with Tactile Representations of Data for Visually Impaired Users [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
New tactile interfaces such as swell form printing or refreshable tactile displays promise to allow visually impaired people to analyze data. However, it is possible that design guidelines and familiar encodings derived from experiments on the visual perception system may not be optimal for the tactile perception system.

Engineering Magnetotactic Bacteria as Medical Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are living microorganisms that produce magnetosomes for navigation using the Earth's geomagnetic field. Their built‐in magnetic components, along with their intrinsic and/or modified biological functions, make them one of the most promising platforms for making future living and programmable microrobots.
