Compositionality in visual perception

Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2023
Quilty-Dunn et al.’s wide-ranging defense of LoT argues that vision traffics in abstract, structured representational formats. We agree: Vision, like language, is compositional—just as words compose into phrases, many visual representations contain discrete constituents that combine in systematic ways.

Qwen2-VL: Enhancing Vision-Language Model's Perception of the World at Any Resolution

arXiv.org
We present the Qwen2-VL Series, an advanced upgrade of the previous Qwen-VL models that redefines the conventional predetermined-resolution approach in visual processing. Qwen2-VL introduces the Naive Dynamic Resolution mechanism, which enables the model

Denial of visual perception

Brain and Cognition, 1991
An adult with the diagnosis of cortical blindness, complaining of a complete visual loss of 2 years in duration, was found to have a small preserved visual field and remarkably preserved visual abilities. Although denying visual perception, he correctly named objects, colors, and famous faces, recognized facial emotions, and read various types of ...

Visual perception — A hypothesis

Medical Hypotheses, 1991
Based on the results of after-image experiments, it can be concluded that the retinal perception of image position is linked to head position information, since this affects after-image positioning. Why actual perception of object position is not affected is hypothesised as a resetting of the retinal horizon, from information received on head position.

A RUGD Dataset for Autonomous Navigation and Visual Perception in Unstructured Outdoor Environments

IEEE/RJS International Conference on Intelligent RObots and Systems, 2019
Research in autonomous driving has benefited from a number of visual datasets collected from mobile platforms, leading to improved visual perception, greater scene understanding, and ultimately higher intelligence.

Visual-Perception Models

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1971
Several theoretical models for the prediction of liminal contrast are studied. One model that employs the known excitation and inhibition spread functions of the eye accurately predicts, at 10 mL, thresholds for circular targets, sine waves, and rectangles, including the line as a special case.

Visual Perception and Xerography

Science, 1968
An electrostatic copying machine was used to model the perception of simultaneous brightness contrast. Such a model may assist the study of sensory inhibition by permitting the study of complex situations as they are transformed by rules similar to those at work in neural integration.

Visual Perceptions

2002
A wine’s appearance is typically the first sensual pleasure a wine can give. If glorious, it can be a harbinger of the sensory delight awaiting the consumer. However, if less than appealing, the countenance can dampen the perception of the wine’s other sensory qualities.

Environment‐Adaptable Artificial Visual Perception Behaviors Using a Light‐Adjustable Optoelectronic Neuromorphic Device Array

Advances in Materials, 2019
Emulating the biological visual perception system typically requires a complex architecture including the integration of an artificial retina and optic nerves with various synaptic behaviors.

The Perception of Visual Surfaces

The American Journal of Psychology, 1950
The writer has recently proposed the theory that visual space-perception is reducible to the perception of visual surfaces, and that distance, depth, and orientation, together with the constancy of objects, may all be derived from the properties of an array of surfaces.' The notion of completely empty space is asserted to be irrelevant for the theory ...
