Auditory, Visual, and Auditory-Visual Perception of Vowels by Hearing-Impaired Children

Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1982
The vowels/i I æ a У у /were presented through auditory, visual, and combined auditory-visual modalities to hearing-impaired children having good, intermediate, and poor auditory word-recognition skills. When they received acoustic information only, children with good word-recognition skills confused neighboring vowels (i.e., those having similar ...

Audio-visual temporal perception in children with restored hearing

Neuropsychologia, 2017
It is not clear how audio-visual temporal perception develops in children with restored hearing. In this study we measured temporal discrimination thresholds with an audio-visual temporal bisection task in 9 deaf children with restored audition, and 22 typically hearing children.

Visual and haptic perception of postural affordances in children and adults

Human Movement Science, 2002
The present study compared how children and adults perceived affordances for upright stance when information was available either visually or haptically. 12 adults (mean age=26.5 years) and 13 children (mean age=4.5 years) examined an adjustable wooden platform that was randomly set at five different degrees of inclination (17, 22, 27, 33, 39).

Object processing in visual perception and action in children and adults

Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2012
We investigated whether 6- and 7-year-olds and 9- and 10-year-olds, as well as adults, process object dimensions independent of or in interaction with one another in a perception and action task by adapting Ganel and Goodale's method for testing adults (Nature, 2003, Vol. 426, pp. 664-667).

Perception and Memory of the Orientation of Visually Presented Lines by Children

Nature, 1969
YOUNG children up to the age of between 6 and 7 years perform very poorly in tasks which require response on the basis of orientation of visually presented stimuli. This consistent finding has been variously interpreted as being the result of a deficit in the child's ability to attend to, or to perceive, or to memorize orientation differences1–3. I now
