Nanowire arrays restore vision in blind mice
The restoration of light response using retinal prosthesis could be a way to restore vision following retinal degenerative disease. Here the authors develop gold-titania nanowire arrays that restore visual response in blind mice.

An Implanted Tooth That Can Feel
To endow the implanted tooth with masticatory perception, herein we demonstrate that a 3D‐printed piezoelectric‐core/robust‐sheath implanted tooth can rebuild the sensing feedback, serving as “mechanoreceptors” in converting the mechanical chewing force to electrical signals, and up to brain through surrounding alveolar nerve system.

Long-term Follow up of Van Nes Rotationplasty for Congenital Proximal Focal Femoral Deficiency [PDF]
Van Nes rotationplasty may be used for patients with congenital proximal focal femoral deficiency (PFFD). The lower limb is rotated to use the ankle and foot as a functional knee joint within a prosthesis.

Schematic showing a stretchable triboelectric nanogenerator based on interlocked wavy architectures that uses EGaIn microflower‐embedded PVDF‐TrFE and Nylon‐6 nanofiber membranes. The multi‐petaled, electron‐rich EGaIn microflowers enhance interfacial polarization and capacitance, while the interlocked wavy architecture enlarges the effective contact ...

Newcastle visual cortical prosthesis
Optogenetics is a gene therapy technique which holds lots of potential as a neural interface but also has lots of challenges. It is currently under trial both in the US and Europe for use in a retinal prosthesis form of visual restoration for those with Retinitis Pigmentosa. These trials have been underway[for full text, please go to the a.m. URL]

Ion‐Pair‐Tuned Ionogels for Broad‐Range Linear Pressure Sensing
Ionogels engineered through ion‐pair tuning extend the linear sensing range of capacitive pressure sensors. By balancing ionic mobility and polarizability within the polymer matrix, this approach mitigates dielectric saturation and maintains a stable pressure response across a broad operating range.

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Exploring the impact of myoelectric prosthesis controllers on visuomotor behavior
Background Prosthesis users often rely on vision to monitor the activity of their prosthesis, which can be cognitively demanding. This compensatory visual behaviour may be attributed to an absence of feedback from the prosthesis or the unreliability of ...

Friend, Not Foe: Lowered Tissue Reactivity to Long‐Term Polyimide Implants
The choice of optimal neural probe designs remains a major challenge in the field of neurotechnology. This study investigated the biocompatibility of several probe variations, including material, thickness, width, and implantation strategy. It highlights the clear advantage of soft polyimide probes over stiff silicon probes for better device ...
