Visual saliency from image features with application to compression

open access: yes, 2012
Image feature point algorithms and their associated regional de-scriptors can be viewed as primitive detectors of visually-salient information. In this paper, a new method for constructing a visual attention probabilitymap using features is proposed ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Visual tracking of multiple interacting objects through Rao-Blackwellized data association particle filtering

open access: yes, 2010
A multiple object visual tracking framework is presented, which is able to manage complex object interactions, missing detections and clutter. The main contribution is the ability to deal with complex situations in which the interacting objects can ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Confidence-Guided Frame Skipping to Enhance Object Tracking Speed

open access: yesSensors
Object tracking is a challenging task in computer vision. While simple tracking methods offer fast speeds, they often fail to track targets. To address this issue, traditional methods typically rely on complex algorithms.

Helmet slippage during visual tracking: The effect of voluntary head movements

open access: yes, 1993
The influence of visual tracking on head movement and on the head/helmet system was investigated for two different helmets (a motorcycle helmet and a flying helmet) under static laboratory conditions.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Robot Visual Tracking Model Based on Improved GOTURN-LD Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access
With the aging of the population and the shortage of labor, the demand for service robots is increasing. As the key performance of visual tracking, it still has the problems of low tracking accuracy and poor real-time performance.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.
