What causes the processing advantage in the comprehension of German object relative clauses?

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Introduction Individuals with aphasia (IWAs) often demonstrate chance performance in the comprehension of object relative clauses (ORCs) in off-line sentence-picture verification tasks (e.g., Burchert, De Bleser, & Sonntag, 2003).

Looking at Online Language Comprehension with the Visual World Paradigm: A Systematic and Cross-Linguistic Review of Three Decades

open access: yesDilbilim Araştırmaları Dergisi
The Visual World Paradigm (VWP) is one of the most widely used experimental paradigms in psycholinguistic research for studying online word and sentence processing. Over the past three decades, a wealth of research has shown that eye movements can reveal

Second language experience modulates word retrieval effort in bilinguals: Evidence from pupillometry

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2014
Bilingual speakers often have less language experience compared to monolinguals as a result of speaking two languages and/or a later age of acquisition of the second language.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Understanding Events by Eye and Ear: Agent and Verb Drive Non-anticipatory Eye Movements in Dynamic Scenes

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
As Macnamara (1978) once asked, how can we talk about what we see? We report on a study manipulating realistic dynamic scenes and sentences aiming to understand the interaction between linguistic and visual representations in real-world situations ...

Using the visual world paradigm to study language processing: A review and critical evaluation

open access: yesActa Psychologica, 2011
We describe the key features of the visual world paradigm and review the main research areas where it has been used. In our discussion we highlight that the paradigm provides information about the way language users integrate linguistic information with information derived from the visual environment.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.
