Vital Auxiliaries — The Underrated Events
1984Auxiliary systems, such as instrument air, DC power and cooling water play an important part in keeping a nuclear power plant operating. This paper looks at failures which have occurred in these systems. A new technique for analyzing plant auxiliary systems to detect potential interactions between the auxiliary systems and other plant systems is ...

Vitality and recurrent event risk in acute myocardial infarction survivors
European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention & Rehabilitation, 2009Background Low vitality, characterized by fatigue and lack of energy, is common among survivors of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and has been shown to be associated with increased risk of primary and secondary cardiac events. The goal of this study was to determine whether an association between vitality and recurrent cardiac events (nonfatal MI ...

The Interdependence of Vital Events: Twentieth-Century Indian Kerala
The Journal of Interdisciplinary History, 2000The parish records of Syrian Catholics and Latin Catholics in twentieth-century Kerala, India, can be used to assess the seasonal fluctuations and interdependence of such vital events as births, deaths, and marriages in the short run. That the effect of seasonality has been more pronounced among the Syrian Catholic community than among the Latin ...

Prediction of severe adverse event from vital signs for post-operative patients
2021 43rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2021Monitoring post-operative patients is important for preventing severe adverse events (SAE), which increases morbidity and mortality. Conventional bedside monitoring system has demonstrated the difficulty in long term monitoring of those patients because majority of them are ambulatory.

Seasonally of vital events in a pacific island population
Biodemography and Social Biology, 1991Analyses of vital data derived from a family record register for the native population of Guam reveal significant variations in births, deaths, and marriages over the period 1901-41. Although lacking marked photoperiod or temperature changes of temperate zones, the tropical island is subject to marked seasonal differences in rainfall characteristic of ...

Frequency spectra of flow and volume events for forced vital capacity
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1982We determined the frequency content of forced expiratory flow-time (FT) and volume-time (VT) curves by a fast Fourier transform to determine the dynamic responses required of devices to reproduce these curves. We analyzed 304 FT and VT curves from 15 normal (N) subjects (ages 8– yr), 15 cystic fibrosis (CF) patients (ages 7–36 yr), and 9 smokers (S ...

Detecting artifactual events in vital signs monitoring data
2016In this study we collect and annotate data from 27 intensive care unit (ICU) patients from the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. Two models are compared for the detection, removal and cleaning of artifact in the vital signs data, namely the Factorial Switching Linear Dynamical System (FSLDS) and the Discriminative Switching Linear Dynamical System (

Meta-Analysis of Relation of Vital Exhaustion to Cardiovascular Disease Events
The American Journal of Cardiology, 2017To assess the net impact of vital exhaustion on cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality, we conducted a systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and PsychINFO (through April 2016) to identify all studies which investigated the relation between vital exhaustion (VE) and health outcomes.

Estimators of vital events in dual-record systems
Journal of Applied Statistics, 2000Dual-record system estimation has been widely used to obtain vital events in the past. Because of the weakness of the statistical assumptions of the model, as well as the biases involved in the estimators, its use became limited. The proposed estimators for dual-record systems are based on further division of the cells of the original table.
