Trigger-free Event Detection via Derangement Reading Comprehension [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Event detection (ED), aiming to detect events from texts and categorize them, is vital to understanding actual happenings in real life. However, mainstream event detection models require high-quality expert human annotations of triggers, which are often costly and thus deter the application of ED to new domains.

Astrometric Calibration and Source Characterisation of the Latest Generation Neuromorphic Event-based Cameras for Space Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
As an emerging approach to space situational awareness and space imaging, the practical use of an event-based camera in space imaging for precise source analysis is still in its infancy. The nature of event-based space imaging and data collection needs to be further explored to develop more effective event-based space image systems and advance the ...

May I Take Your Order? On the Interplay Between Time and Order in Process Mining [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Process mining starts from event data. The ordering of events is vital for the discovery of process models. However, the timestamps of events may be unreliable or imprecise. To further complicate matters, also causally unrelated events may be ordered in time.

Statistics of microscopic yielding in sheared aqueous foams [PDF]

open access: yesPhil Mag. Lett. vol. 87 125 (2007), 2006
We detail the statistical distribution of bubble rearrangements in a sheared two-dimensional foam. Such rearrangements, known as T1 events, are vital to mechanisms resulting in flow through microscopic mechanical yielding. We find that at a constant rate of shear, the rate of occurrence of T1 events shows only small fluctuations.
