Multimodal Exploratory Analysis of Persistent Diabetic Macular Edema: Integrating Aqueous Humour Metabolomics, Clinical and OCT Features

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose This exploratory study integrates aqueous humour metabolomic data with clinical and imaging features to examine candidate biomarkers and characterize multimodal patterns associated with persistent diabetic macular edema (pDME). Methods In this prospective cohort study, DME patients were treated with monthly anti‐VEGF injections over 3 ...

Trends in the Proportion of Hepatitis C Virus Antibody‐Positive Patients Who Could be Considered for Direct‐Acting Antiviral Therapy Identified Through Preoperative Testing for Ophthalmic Surgery: A Nationwide Multicenter Real‐World Cohort Study in Japan

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
Although the number of HCV antibody‐positive patients in ophthalmology departments has decreased, the proportion requiring referral for DAA therapy has not declined despite the widespread use of DAAs. Furthermore, combining HCV antibody titer determination with EMR review improves the efficiency of identifying patients requiring referral.

Elevated ApoB/A1 ratio predicts enhanced short-term efficacy of anti-VEGF therapy in diabetic macular edema

open access: yesScientific Reports
Abnormalities in lipid metabolism play an important role in diabetic macular edema (DME), and the aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between ApoB/A1 levels and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and macular microstructural changes in ...

Techniques for subretinal injections in animals

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 506-518, March 2025.
Abstract Subretinal injections are not commonly performed during clinical treatment of animals but are frequently used in laboratory animal models to assess therapeutic efficacy and safety of gene and cell therapy products. Veterinary ophthalmologists are often employed to perform the injections in the laboratory animal setting, due to knowledge of ...

Functional validation of driver mutation‐specific uveal melanoma biomarkers: role of COL9A3 in cancer cell plasticity

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 270, Issue 2, Page 226-240, October 2026.
Abstract Uveal melanoma (UM) is a deadly ocular malignancy with well‐described genetic alterations that predict disease outcome. However, our current understanding of the biological underpinnings of high‐risk uveal melanoma progression remains relatively limited. Using RNA expression profiles from 250 patients with UM, we identified 12 novel biomarkers

The IL‐10/IL‐6 Ratio and the Risk Score: Two Cytokines‐Based Predictors for Malignancy‐Associated Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in Adults (M‐HLHa)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 101, Issue 9, Page 2214-2224, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The predictive value of cytokines (CK) for malignancy‐associated adult hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (M‐HLHa) remains uncertain. We evaluated a cytokine‐based Risk Score (RS) and the IL‐10/IL‐6 Ratio to predict M‐HLHa. Adult patients (n = 112) from the French HLH cohort (NCT02113917) with complete data for nine key HLH related CK measured

Sporadic Retinal Astrocytic Hamartoma Mimicking Retinoblastoma in a Child: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Retinal astrocytichamartoma (RAH) is a rare benign glial neoplasm most commonly associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Sporadic cases, occurring in the absence of systemic phakomatosis, are uncommon and may closely mimic retinoblastoma, particularly when presenting with a calcified intraocular mass, creating a diagnostic challenge ...
