A Novel Slit Lamp‐Based System for 3D Ultrasound of the Eye

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound in Medicine, EarlyView.
Objectives This study aims to develop and evaluate a novel slit‐lamp‐based system to acquire 3‐dimensional (3D) ultrasound volumes using conventional ultrasound probes. Methods A slit‐lamp adapter was 3D printed and connected with a linear actuator and graphical user interface (GUI) system to control movement and create volumes of 2‐dimensional scans ...

METTL14 Ameliorates Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Autophagy in Lens Epithelial Cells of Diabetic Cataracts via m6A Modification of RPL3

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diabetic cataracts are a leading cause of blindness, with lens epithelial cells (LECs) exhibiting mitochondrial dysfunction and autophagy inhibition under high glucose (HG) conditions. Methyltransferase‐like 14 (METTL14), an RNA methyltransferase, regulates N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification; however, its role in modulating ...

A new approach for sutureless 20-G vitrectomy

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society, 2015
Aim of the work To assess the safety and the effectiveness of a new approach for sutureless 20-G pars plana vitrectomy using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate ′Histoacryl′ glue, aiming for the conversion of the conventional 20-G vitrectomy to a sutureless ...

LPCAT3 as a Potential Drug Target for Ultraviolet Radiation–Induced Cataract: Insights From Multiomics Analysis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation is a major risk factor for cataract development, but the molecular mechanisms underlying this process, particularly the involvement of regulated cell death pathways such as ferroptosis, remain unclear. Transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic analyses were performed on lens tissues from UVB‐induced cataract rat ...

A Hydrogel Vitreous Substitute that Releases Antioxidant

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, 2019
AbstractCurrent experimental vitreous substitutes only replace the physical functions of the natural vitreous humor. Removal of the native vitreous disrupts oxygen homeostasis in the eye, causing oxidative damage to the lens that likely results in cataract formation.

Ex Vivo Evaluation of Poly(Solketal Acrylate) Nanoparticles for Intravitreal Drug Delivery to the Posterior Eye Segment

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Nile Red‐loaded poly(solketal acrylate) nanoparticles enable fluorescence tracking and exhibit nontoxic profiles in retinal cells. Enhanced cellular uptake and deep retinal penetration after intravitreal injection highlight their excellent potential for targeted ocular drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye.

Swine deep bedding ashes as a mineral additive for cement based mortar Cinzas de cama sobreposta de suínos como adição mineral em argamassas de cimento

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2008
The sustainability of intensive swine production demands alternative destinations for the generated residues. Ashes from swine rice husk-based deep bedding were tested as a mineral addition for cement mortars.

Two-component Hydrogel as Biomimetic Vitreous Substitutes

open access: yes, 2017
The vitreous humor of the eye is a biological hydrogel principally composed of fibrillary collagen interspersed with semi-flexible polyelectrolyte, hyaluronic acid (HA). Certain pathological conditions necessitate its removal and replacement.

Update on Ouratea cidiana Sastre (Ochnaceae), a microendemic species from the Amazon: enlightening the identity and conservation status

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Ouratea cidiana (Ochnaceae) is a microendemic shrub species from the Brazilian Amazonia, occurring along the banks of the Trombetas River and restricted to the Cachoeira Porteira region, in western Pará State. Since the original collection nearly forty years ago, no additional records have been made, which is concerning given the continuous decline in ...

Heimaeyite, Na3Al(SO4)3, a new mineral from the fumaroles on Eldfell volcano, Iceland [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mineralogy
The new mineral, heimaeyite, was found among the fumarolic encrustations collected on Eldfell volcano, on the island of Heimaey, Iceland. The mineral formed as microscopic rounded aggregates (<50 µm) and rounded grains (<10 µm) mixed with tiny ...
