Urbanization and food transition in the Brazilian Amazon: From wild to domesticated meat

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Urbanization is expected to influence food transitions, resulting in a shift from wild foods to more domesticated foods. Concomitantly, food insecurity and urban demand for natural resources, including wildlife, are expected to increase overall, even when the per capita consumption is expected to decrease.

An Improved Sparrow Search Algorithm for the Optimization of Variational Modal Decomposition Parameters

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Variational modal decomposition (VMD) is frequently employed for both signal decomposition and extracting features; however, the decomposition outcome is influenced by the quantity of intrinsic modal functions (IMFs) and the specific parameter values of ...

Prenatal Spectrum of COL2A1‐Related Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita: A Review and Two Case Reports

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To review the published literature on prenatal findings of COL2A1‐related SEDC, summarizing reported imaging and molecular variants, and to describe two additional prenatal cases evaluated at a tertiary referral center. Method A narrative review with a systematic search strategy was conducted to analyze prenatal imaging findings ...

New 2D-Variational Mode Decomposition-Based Techniques for Seismic Attribute Enhancement

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Seismic attributes are widely used to enhance the interpretation of structural, stratigraphic, and lithologic features in subsurface data. Their effectiveness, however, can be limited by noise, resolution constraints, and processing artifacts. This study

Molecular Interactions of Viral Insulin/IGF‐Like Peptides With Zebrafish Receptors

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Signaling through the insulin receptor (IR) and the type 1 insulin‐like growth factor receptor (IGF1R) is modulated by secreted hormones and growth factor ligands (e.g., insulin and insulin‐like growth factor 1, IGF1). Impaired signaling in these receptors often leads to diabetes and oncogenic diseases.

Topology‐Encoded Charge Polarity Governs Multiphase Organization in Intrinsically Disordered Protein Polymer Condensates

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Electrostatic topology is shown to program phase separation and internal organization in thermoresponsive intrinsically disordered protein polymer (IDPP) condensates. By comparing oppositely charged IDPPs with a covalent diblock, chain connectivity is revealed to control charge compensation, dense‐phase micropolarity, miscibility, and apparent acid ...

A combined model for short-term traffic flow prediction based on variational modal decomposition and deep learning

open access: yesScientific Reports
The emergence of Deep Learning provides an opportunity for traffic flow prediction. However, uncertainty and volatility exhibited by nonlinearity and instability of traffic flow pose challenges to Deep Learning models.

Predictive Amphiphile Design Enables Control of Self‐Assembled Nanoparticle‐Cell Membrane Interactions

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The interactions of self‐assembled nanocarriers with cell membranes are programmable through amphiphile design. We identify how head and tail chemistry govern distinct interaction mechanisms and introduce ΔGtransfer, a unified thermodynamic descriptor that predicts nanoparticle behaviour from simple molecular simulations.

Mg2+ Ions as Interfacial Charge Bridges for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in Poly(Heptazine Imide)

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Mg2+ confined within poly(heptazine imide) acts as a heterogenized interfacial charge bridge capable to couple synergistically the semiconductor with Pt co‐catalysts, thus enhancing hydrogen evolution. Through water polarization and hydroxide stabilization, a dynamic Mg2+‐OHδ−‐Hδ+‐Pt motif facilitates proton transfer and overcomes interfacial electron ...

The Effect of The Variation of Tool End Geometry on Material Removal Mechanisms in Nanomachining [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The selection of effective and optimal machining parameters is a major challenge for the manufacturing industries. The tool-work interactions may be affected by many process parameters including depth of cut, cutting speed, feed rate, cutting tool ...
