Experimental validation and physical modelling of vocal folds pathologies [PDF]

open access: yesDans Proc. 19th International Congress on Acoustics - 19th International Congress on Acoustics, Madrid : Espagne (2007), 2007
Voiced sounds involve self-sustained vocal folds oscillations due to the interaction between the airflow and the vocal folds. Common vocal folds pathologies like polyps and anatomical asymmetry degrade the mechanical vocal fold properties and consequently disturb the normal oscillation pattern resulting in an abnormal sound production.

LOCALIZED VOCAL CORD AMYLOIDOSIS

open access: yesElectronic Journal of General Medicine, 2007
Kocaeli University School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Internal Medicine and Pathology. Kocaeli, Turkey Localized laryngeal amyloidosis is an uncommon diease with limited long-term follow- up studies. The precise etiology and pathogenesis are not entirely clear.

Visual-perceptive assessment of glottic characteristics of vocal nodules by means of high-speed videoendoscopy

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2023
Objective: Visual-perceptive assessment of glottic characteristics of vocal nodules by means of high-speed videoendoscopy. Methods: Descriptive observational research with convenience sampling of five laryngeal videos of women with an average age of 25 ...

Is there a correlation of sonographic measurements of true vocal cords with gender or body mass indices in normal healthy volunteers?

open access: yesJournal of Emergencies, Trauma and Shock, 2014
Background: Ultrasound is a readily available, non-invasive technique to visualize airway dimensions at the patient′s bedside and possibly predict difficult airways before invasively looking; however, it has rarely been used for emergency investigation ...

Myelin Formation by Oligodendrocytes Is Enhanced Through Laminin‐411 and Its Derived Peptide

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
Laminin (LM) α1, α2, and α4 chains are expressed at the myelination stage of oligodendrocyte (OL). LM411 and its E8 fragment enhance OL myelin membrane formation. A4G47 from LM411E8 is a novel peptide that promotes OL myelin formation. ABSTRACT In the central nervous system, oligodendrocytes (OLs) form myelin sheaths that accomplish the efficient ...

Reinke’s edema of the vocal cords

open access: yesZdravniški Vestnik, 2010
Background: Reinke’s edema is one of the most frequent head and neck diseases. A great majority of the patients are middle-aged women. In the initial stage of the disease, a deeper voice appears. Hoarseness is a sign of an advanced disease.

Oligodendrogenesis in Evolution, Development and Adulthood

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
Oligodendrocytes and myelin took shape in jawed vertebrates. During development, OPCs are originated from NSCs and then undergo differentiation into mature oligodendrocytes that supply myelin. OPCs persist in the adult CNS and continue to produce oligodendrocytes and myelin. Adaptive myelination, which fine‐tunes neural circuits in response to neuronal
