Arytenoid and posterior vocal fold surgery for bilateral vocal fold immobility
Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery, 2011Many procedures exist to address the airway restriction often seen with bilateral vocal fold immobility. We review the most recent studies involving arytenoid and/or posterior vocal fold surgery to provide an update on the issues related to these procedures.

Monitoring Vocal Fold Abduction through Vocal Fold Contact Area
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1988A number of commercial devices for measuring the transverse electrical conductance of the thyroid cartilage produce waveforms that can be useful for monitoring movements within the larynx during voice production, especially movements that are closely related to the time-variation of the contact between the vocal folds as they vibrate.

Vibratory Asymmetry in Mobile Vocal Folds: Is it Predictive of Vocal Fold Paresis?
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2011Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the videostroboscopic finding of vibratory asymmetry in mobile vocal folds is a reliable predictor of vocal fold paresis. In addition, the ability of experienced reviewers to predict the distribution (left/right/bilateral) of the paresis was ...

Phonosurgery of the vocal folds: a classification proposal
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2003The Phonosurgery Committee of the European Laryngological Society (ELS) has examined the definition and technical description of phonosurgical procedures. Based on this review, the committee has proposed a working classification. The current presentation is restricted to vocal fold surgery (VFS) with phonosurgical intent.

Microdynamics in Vocal Fold Vibration
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1974The question: what causes damage to the vocal cords in habitual faulty use of the vocal organs, is answered in part by the morphological characteristics of the vocal folds. Experiments with a large stress exerted on the vocal ligaments do not clearly support the hypothesis that rupture of collagen fibres may occur in vocal strain.ZUSAMMENFASSUNGDie ...

Suture laterofixation of the vocal fold for bilateral vocal fold immobility
Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery, 2011To review the recent published literature on the subject of suture laterofixation for bilateral vocal fold immobility, to evaluate outcomes, and to assess advances and modifications of the procedure during the review period.Suture laterofixation offers potential benefits over other surgical procedures employed in the treatment of bilateral vocal fold ...

Classification of vocal fold nodules and cysts based on vascular defects of vocal folds
2013 IEEE International Workshop on Machine Learning for Signal Processing (MLSP), 2013Physical examination of larynx by using videolaryngostroboscopy provides valuable information for diagnosis of vocal fold pathologies. However difficulty of differentiate nodules and cysts using clinical resources alone motivates physicians to research new strategies.

Vocal fold exposure in phonosurgery
Journal of Voice, 1993A difficult laryngeal exposure is made easier by placement of the patient's head and neck into the Boyce-Jackson "sniffing position" and then flexing them further if necessary, by selection of a laryngoscope appropriate to the patient and to the triangular glottic shape, by placement of the laryngoscope along the path of least resistance, by use of a ...
