Organic Foliar Fertilizer Prepared from Fermented Fruits on Growth of Vochysia guatemalensis in the Costa Rican Humid Tropics

Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, 2001
ABSTRACT This note examines the effects of an organic foliar fertilizer prepared from fermented waste fruits on the growth of a tropical tree (Vochysia guatemalensis) under nursery conditions in the Costa Rican Humid Tropics. Results from this single experiment revealed a positive response to the foliar application of this organic fertilizer for seven ...

Genetic variation in the number of cuttings harvestable and rooted from Vochysia guatemalensis coppiced stumps

Forest Ecology and Management, 1998
Abstract A total of 3029 cuttings were harvested from coppiced stumps of 96 trees representing six provenances of Vochysia guatemalensis. There was significant variation in diameter between provenances with tree stumps from La Ceiba in Honduras being the largest with a mean of 13.4 cm compared with 10.5 cm for Siquirres in Costa Rica.

Variation in Selected Wood Properties of Vochysia Guatemalensis from Four Sites in Costa Rica

Forest Science, 1998
Abstract Vochysia guatemalensis D. Smith is distributed naturally from Mexico to Panama. It is a promising species for commercial reforestation on degraded lands, but little is known about the variation in important wood traits. Trees of this species were sampled in four natural stands to estimate the variation and radial gradients in ...

Radial Variation in Wood Specific Gravity, Fibre Length and Vessel Area for Two Central American Hardwoods: Hyeronima Alchorneoides and Vochysia Guatemalensis: Natural and Plantation-Grown Trees

IAWA Journal, 1993
Natural-grown and young (5.5 year old) plantation-grown trees were sampled for two Central American hardwood species: Hyeronima alchorneoides and Vochysia guatemalensis in the Atlantic lowlands of Costa Rica. Increment cores extracted at a height of 1.3 m from trees were divided into 1cm segments from pith to bark. Basic specific gravity was calculated
