Environmental Effects in Composite Laminates with Voids

Polymers and Polymer Composites, 1995
This work presents an experimental program aimed at investigating some aspects of environmental effects on carbon/epoxy laminates with voids. The objective is to obtain experimental data to subsidize acceptance criteria for ultrasonic inspection of composite parts for aerospace applications.

Effective properties of composite materials containing voids

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1993
Recent results of theoretical and practical importance prove that the two-dimensional (in-plane) effective (average) Young’s modulus for an isotropic elastic material containing voids is independent of the Poisson’s ratio of the matrix material.

Void reduction in autoclave processing of thermoset composites

Composites, 1992
Abstract Industrial production of thermoset composite components usually involves the application of a vacuum bagging and autoclave pressure to minimize void percentage, usually to less than 5%. The application of vacuum bagging can be time consuming, with the actual vacuum application limited to a short interval during the curing process to avoid ...

Yolk-shell Si/SiOx@Void@C composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries

Functional Materials Letters, 2019
Silicon (Si) has been considered as one of the most promising anode materials in lithium-ion battery. However, practical applications of Si are hindered by undesirable cycling stability resulting from poor electrical conductivity and huge volumetric ...

Void Analysis of Composite Materials

2010
Abstract Achieving the best-performing composite part requires that the processing method and cure cycle create high-quality, low-void-content structures. If voids are present, the performance of the composite will be significantly reduced. There are multiple causes of voids in composite materials; they are generally categorized as voids

Do vesical and voided urine have identical compositions?

Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, 2004
In view of the concept that the urothelium is a functioning epithelium, we investigated the hypothesis that the composition of urine is modified as it passes through the urethra from the urinary bladder to the exterior. The study was performed in 22 healthy volunteers (13 males, 9 females; mean age 44.6+/-6.2 years).

Characterisation of voids in fibre reinforced composite materials

NDT & E International, 2012
Abstract Voids and porosity are critical imperfections in fibre reinforced composite materials. The aim of this study is to assess the comparative accuracy and reliability of conventional and novel void characterisation techniques for analysing voids within carbon fibre reinforced composite (CFRC) laminates.

Water Uptake in Polymer Composites with Voids

2017
Long-term durability assessment of polymer matrix composite materials exposed to humid air or liquid water requires a firm understanding of the mechanisms governing water uptake and the chemical interactions involved in degradation of the matrix and the fiber/matrix interface.

Strength of Hygrothermally Conditioned Polymer Composites with Voids

Journal of Composite Materials, 2005
It is well known that voids and environmental conditions may affect the strength of composite laminates. Despite the fact that voids facilitate moisture absorption, the effect of voids on the composite laminates in the presence of moisture has not been addressed in the literature.
