Bioactive Void Metal Composites for Orthopedic Implant Devices

MRS Proceedings, 1995
AbstractAlthough significant advances have been made to provide mechanically strong and nontoxic metals and alloys, biological integration of devices into natural tissues remains a problem. The Surface Induced Mineralization (SIM) and Void Metal Composite (VMC) processes produce a bioactive porous metal implant coating/device which may address many of ...

Numerical Investigations of Ultrasonic Scattering from Voids in Composite Materials Based on Random Void Model

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Ultrasonic attenuation coefficient is firstly calculated utilizing the finite difference time domain method based on a novel 2-D RVM for carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite materials. The results show that the void morphology has detrimental effect on ultrasonic attenuation.

On the elimination of Kirkendall voids in superconducting composites

Applied Physics Letters, 1979
Kirkendall void formation, which has hitherto prevented the use of the external diffusion technique for the manufacture of practical multifilamentary superconducting composites, can be suppressed by using solution anneals to eliminate sites for heterogeneous void nucleation.

Void formation in composite prepregs – Effect of dissolved moisture

Composites Science and Technology, 2010
Abstract Void formation as a function of resin moisture content was investigated to better understand and control process defects in composite parts made from prepreg. In this study, uncured prepreg was conditioned at 70%, 80% and 90% relative humidity and at 35 °C. Conditioned prepreg was laid up into quasi-isotropic laminates and cured using vacuum
