Effect of Vibrations on Void Content in Composite Materials
Advanced Materials Research, 2008Eliminating common defects such as voids, bubbles and poor adhesion at interfaces will increase the quality of laminated sandwich composite structure. We are experimenting and analyzing the effect of mechanical vibrations applied to the curing system of composite materials production, particularly on minimizing void content.

Void reduction in autoclave processing of thermoset composites
Composites, 1992Abstract Microwave curing of thermoset composites has been experimentally shown to be both feasible and viable. There are, however, additional problems when the process is applied industrially such as maximization of the glass transition temperature and reduction of the void content.

Void Analysis of Composite Materials
2004Abstract Voids in fiber-reinforced composite materials are areas that are absent of the composite components: matrix (resin) and fibers. Voids have many causes but generally can be categorized as voids due to volatiles or as voids that result from entrapped air. This article describes the analysis of various types of voids.

Critical Void Content for Thermoset Composite Laminates
Journal of Composite Materials, 2006An experimental program to characterize the effect of voids on the strength of composite laminates is presented. The adequacy of a fracture criterion to represent the experimental data for the effect of voids on the flexure strength, tensile strength, and interlaminar shear strength of composite laminates is assessed.

Strength of Hygrothermally Conditioned Polymer Composites with Voids
Journal of Composite Materials, 2005It is well known that voids and environmental conditions may affect the strength of composite laminates. Despite the fact that voids facilitate moisture absorption, the effect of voids on the composite laminates in the presence of moisture has not been addressed in the literature.

Water Uptake in Polymer Composites with Voids
2017Long-term durability assessment of polymer matrix composite materials exposed to humid air or liquid water requires a firm understanding of the mechanisms governing water uptake and the chemical interactions involved in degradation of the matrix and the fiber/matrix interface.

Critical Void Content for Polymer Composite Laminates
AIAA Journal, 2005An experimental program to characterize the effect of voids on the strength of composite laminates is presented, and the adequacy of a fracture criterion to represent the experimental data for the effect of voids on the compressive and interlaminar shear strength of composite laminates is assessed.

On the optical assessment of the void content in composite materials [PDF]
Abstract Two simple optical techniques for the determination of the void content in composite materials are described. The nature of voids is discussed and a practical classification proposed. On the basis of this it is suggested that the techniques described are more than adequate for the assessment of material quality for both development and ...

A void behavior in a complex-shaped composite structure
Modern Physics Letters B, 2019Voids or porosities have been one of the biggest headaches in composite fabricators and are still a challenging issue. In this study, void behavior in a low pressurized area of the laminate during cure is identified and analyzed. And, the influence of material’s cure rate difference on laminate inner quality is evaluated and verified through material ...

Effect of void content on the strength of composite laminates
Composite Structures, 1994Abstract An experimental program was conducted to assess the effect of void content on the static strength and fatigue life of composite laminates under flexural loading. The fabrication procedure used to produce carbon/epoxy laminates with reasonably uniform void content and constant fiber fraction is described.
