Void fraction dynamics in fluidization
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1992A nonlinear evolution equation for void fraction in fluidization is derived from a one‐dimensional continuous model by applying the method of adiabatic eliminations. Based on our equation, the dynamics near the transitions point from stable fluidized beds to unstable ones is investigated. Phase separations in fluidized beds are also discussed.

Experiments on void fraction waves
International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 1989Abstract Experiments on the propagation of small void fraction disturbances along an upward vertical test section are reported, for bubbly flows and transitional (bubbly-slug) flows. Wave attenuation and propagation speeds are discussed. In particular, it is shown that two propagation phenomena, with different speeds, may coexist, the higher speed ...

An assessment of eight void fraction models
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1991Abstract This paper provides an assessment of eight well known models and correlations for predicting the void fraction. The void fraction predictions are compared using steady-state steam–water test data for vertical configurations that included almost 1500 data points representing several areas of interest to nuclear analysts such as: (1) high ...

Void Fractions in Subcooled Flow Boiling
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1969A semianalytic model is presented for the prediction of void fractions in subcooled flow boiling at elevated pressures. The model is based on the formation and growth of a bubble boundary layer adjacent to the heated surface at a rate determined by the difference between the imposed surface heat transfer and the heat removal capability of the subcooled

Void fraction measurements in breaking waves
Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2007This paper describes detailed measurements and analysis of the time-varying distribution of void fractions in three different breaking waves under laboratory conditions. The measurements were made with highly sensitive optical fibre phase detection probes and document the rapid spatial and temporal evolutions of both the bubble plume generated beneath ...

Void fraction distribution in beds of spheres
AIChE Journal, 1962AbstractThe radial variation of void fraction within a packed bed of uniform spheres has been found to vary from unity at the wall to about 38% in the interior of large beds. The voidage distribution takes the form of a damped oscillatory wave with the oscillations damped out at about 4½ to 5 sphere diameters from the container wall.

Void fraction measurement in magnetic fluid
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2005Abstract A new technique of measuring void fraction in the magnetic fluid using the electromagnetic induction is introduced. In order to verify the measurement principle, proof experiments were conducted in the present study, and the accuracy of the proposed method was discussed.

In this paper, (Part II of a two-part study), an investigation of void fractions for condensing flows of refrigerant R-134a in minichannels is presented. Custom digital image processing techniques were used to quantitatively analyze these flows in transparent minchannel geometries (square, rectangular and circular) with 2

A void fraction correlation for generalized applications
Progress in Nuclear Energy, 1992Abstract A void fraction correlation has been developed to cover the full range of pressures, flows, void fractions, and fluid types (steamwater, air-water, hydrocarbons, and oxygen). The correlation, referred to here as the Chexal-Lellouche correlation, has been qualified against several sets of steady-state two-phase/two-component flow test data ...
