Local Bed Voidage in Conical Spouted Beds
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1998Local bed voidages have been experimentally determined by means of an optical fiber probe in conical spouted beds of different geometry (angle, inlet diameter) and working under different operating conditions (particle diameter, stagnant bed height, and air velocity).

Voidage Calculations for Water Flood Schemes
Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology, 1962Abstract The calculation of several distinct physical quantities are sometimeslumped, and not without confusion, under the term "voidage calculations." Eachtype of voidage calculation, such as withdrawals at constant pressure or gasfilled volume, has its place in evaluating the performance of water floods.

Digital Computer Simulation of Voidage in a Regenerator
1980A regenerator is a device which transfers energy between two fluids by storing that energy in a matrix. Normally the two fluids are both gaseous and the matrix, in small-scale versions, normally consists of small spheres. Regenerators work over wide temperature ranges and have many applications from the preheaters for blast furnaces down to very small ...

The propagation of a voidage disturbance in a uniformly fluidized bed
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1983By considering the evolution of a localized voidage disturbance imposed on an otherwise uniformly fluidized bed we are able to determine the dominant effects of the many terms in the continuum equations of motion governing a fluidized bed. For small perturbations a linearized theory is developed, showing that the stability of the uniform state is ...

Measuring the voidage of a CFB through image analysis
Powder Technology, 2010The error associated with estimating the local concentration of particles observed in digital videos of the inner wall of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) riser is evaluated. Understanding the dynamics of these rapidly moving particles will allow researchers to design cleaner and more efficient CFB facilities.

Mean voidage of packed beds of cylindrical particles
Chemical Engineering Science, 1991A detail examination of beds of cylindrical particles has been conducted and a distinctive pattern between mean voidage and diameter ratio is established. Based on the observed information, a generalized correlation is found which allows the mean voidage of such beds to be ...

Voidage Profiles in a Slot‐Rectangular Spouted Bed
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2004AbstractLocal voidages were determined using optical fibre probes for 1.4 and 2.4 mm glass beads in slot‐rectangular spouted beds of width 150 mm. The effects of air inlet flow rate, slot width and bed thickness were investigated. Spout widths were determined from standard deviations of local voidage fluctuations.

Voidage variation at the wall of a packed bed of spheres
Chemical Engineering Science, 1977Abstract It has been observed by many workers that the voidage variation, in the vicinity of a surface immersed within either a packed or a fluidized bed, follows a damped oscillatory curve. An experimental investigation has been carried out in a two-dimensional packed bed, and has revealed that voidage variations can penetrate up to three particle ...

Pressure and voidage fluctuations in slugging fluidized beds
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1999AbstractIn fully developed slugging fluidized beds, the maximum amplitude of absolute pressure fluctuations is reached with increasing superficial gas velocity when the slug length reaches a maximum, and the separation distance between successive slugs starts to decrease.
