Effects of precure cycle on tensile and dynamical mechanical properties of carbon/benzoxazine laminates

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2017
Four designed precure cycles were applied to carbon/benzoxazine prepregs to realize different precure degrees. The quality of laminates in quasi-isotropic stacking sequence made from these precured prepregs was evaluated by void content.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Ultrasonics used for high-precision nondestructive inspection of brazed joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Technique detects voids greater than or equal to 0.1016 cm in braze depths of 0.254 cm, detecting voids of smaller dimensions is possible. Internal design ensures control of beam's water path length to within 0.635 cm, this length is critical to system's

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

A hierarchy of voids: More ado about nothing

open access: yes, 2011
We extend earlier work on the problem of estimating the void-volume function -- the abundance and evolution of large voids which grow gravitationally in an expanding universe -- in two ways.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Impact of Formwork Materials on Concrete Surface Quality

open access: yesBuildings
Given the functional and aesthetic quality expected from concrete surfaces, this study investigated the influence of different formwork materials on their surface density, porosity, voids, and elementary chemical composition by relying on X-ray ...

Prognostic Impact of European LeukemiaNet Genetic Risk Stratification System in Adult Patients With Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of ELN2017 in predicting survival outcomes and to assess the impact of clinical and molecular factors such as age, FLT3 and NPM1 mutations, and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT).

Investigation of the hydraulic characteristics and homogeneity of the microstructure of the air voids in the sustainable rigid pavement

open access: yesOpen Engineering
The present research investigates how incorporating waste concrete block aggregates (WCBA) in place of natural coarse (5–12 mm) aggregates (NCA) affect the characteristics of concrete pavement. The topography of the voids, water absorption, porosity, and
