Tough Nature-Inspired Helicoidal Composites with Printing-Induced Voids
Summary: Exoskeletons of Odontodactylus japonicas, the “smasher-type” mantis shrimp, feature a raptorial appendage comprising a Bouligand architecture of chitin nanofibrils with newly observed voids or defects between the polysaccharide α-chitin and ...

Objective We estimated incidence rates of avoidable hospitalizations by persons with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) relative to the general population. Methods We identified individuals meeting a validated case definition for RA based on International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD‐9‐CM) and ICD‐10‐CA codes in years ...

Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

Performance Triggered Adaptive Model Reduction for Soil Moisture Estimation in Precision Irrigation
ABSTRACT Accurate soil moisture information is essential for precise irrigation to enhance water use efficiency. Estimating soil moisture based on limited soil moisture sensors is especially critical for obtaining comprehensive soil moisture information when dealing with large‐scale agricultural fields.

How empty are the voids? [PDF]
We find an analytical solution for the minimal matter density of a void, its central density. It turns out that the voids are not so empty: most of the voids have the central underdensity $\Delta_c \sim -50\%$ (which means that the matter density in their centers is only two times lower than in the Universe on average).
