Results of Volar Locking Plate Osteosynthesis for Distal Radial Fractures
Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection & Critical Care, 2011To evaluate functional, radiologic, and subjective outcome after volar locking plate osteosynthesis (VLPO) for unstable distal radius fractures (DRF).In this study, patients treated with VLPO for isolated DRF between March 2005 and December 2007 were prospectively evaluated.

Volar Locking Plate + Dorsal-Ulnar Plate
2016With the advent of locking volar plates, many distal radius fractures, including those with comminution, are able to be adequately stabilized from a volar approach only. However, some fractures require supplemental fixation to adequately stabilize and prevent escape of the dorsal-ulnar fragment, and with it, subluxation of the carpus.

Biomechanical Comparison of Volar Locked Plate Constructs Using Smooth and Threaded Locking Pegs
Orthopedics, 2014The goal of this study was to determine whether there is any biomechanical difference in terms of construct strength with axial loading between volar fixed-angle locking plates with threaded locking vs smooth locking pegs. The control group comprised 7 cadaveric specimens with threaded locking pegs, and the test group comprised 7 cadaveric specimens ...

Flexor Tendon Injuries Following Locked Volar Plating of Distal Radius Fractures
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2008We present 2 cases showing that flexor pollicis longus and flexor digitorum profundus index injury can occur after placement of 2 commonly used locked volar plates. In contrast with the literature, the radii healed in an anatomic position without plate lift-off. The patients presented 6 and 8 months after surgery with new onset of radial wrist pain and

Volar, Dorsal, and Lateral Locking Plate Fixation for Pilon Fractures
Techniques in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery, 2017The more common dorsal fracture subluxations at the base of the middle phalanx have an intact dorsal buttress of articular surface in continuity with the shaft. Capitalizing on this foundation, various fixation methods have met with relatively equivalent success including Kirschner wires, screws only, nonlocking plate and screws, and external fixation.

Volar Locking Plate for Intra-Articular Distal Radius Fracture
2016There are several operative options for displaced fractures of the distal radius. Volar plate fixation provides options for fixation of extra- and intra-articular fractures, and is a locked construct which can add support to osteoporotic bone. We will review the literature on the benefits and limitations of volar plates and present an illustrative case.
