Polyaxial versus Uniaxial Volar Locking Plate for Distal Radial Fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2014
Purpose. To compare the penetration of the distal screws in relation to the thickness of the distal metaphysis in the polyaxial versus uniaxial volar locking plates. Methods. Records of 78 patients aged 16 to 79 years who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for distal radial fractures (n=81) were reviewed. All fracture subtypes were included.

Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation: Mechanisms, Roles, and Implications in Cellular Function and Disease

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 7, Issue 11, November 2025.
Liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) is a fundamental biophysical process responsible for forming membraneless organelles involved in key cellular functions like chromatin organization and gene expression. Dysregulation of LLPS contributes to various diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders.

Plate fixation of small metacarpal and metatarsal bone fractures in 27 horses

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, Volume 54, Issue 8, Page 1537-1548, November 2025.
Abstract Objective To present fracture cases selected for plate fixation (PF), describe surgical techniques and assess their association with postoperative complications and return‐to‐work outcomes in horses undergoing PF for small metacarpal/metatarsal (SMCT) fractures. Study design Multicenter retrospective study.

Screw Length in Volar Locking Plate Fixation for Distal Radial Fractures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2015
Purpose. To develop a reference for the distal screw length in volar locking plate fixation for distal radial fractures in an East Asian population. Methods. 12 pairs of forearm specimens from 11 male and one female East Asian cadavers were scanned using computed tomography. On sagittal images of the distal radius, the mean cortex-to-cortex distance of

Genetic Adaptation to Brackish Water and Spawning Season in European Cisco

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 20, October 2025.
ABSTRACT How species adapt to diverse environmental conditions is essential for understanding evolution and the maintenance of biodiversity. The European cisco (Coregonus albula) is a salmonid that occurs in both fresh and brackish water, and this together with the presence of sympatric spring‐ and autumn‐spawning lacustrine populations provides an ...

Trans‐Ulnar Single Incision Fasciotomy for Decompression of Forearm Compartment Syndrome: A Cadaveric Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 2982-2991, October 2025.
Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is a medical emergency that requires timely intervention. Relief of ACS requires a fasciotomy. Currently, there is no consensus on the best approach for a forearm fasciotomy. This study investigates if a trans‐ulnar single incision decompresses forearm compartments to less than 30 mmHg.

Distal radius measurements and efficacy of fixed-angle locking volar plates

open access: yesTURKISH JOURNAL OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, 2014
For surgical treatment of unstable distal radius fractures, fixed-angled locking volar plate fixation is becoming popular nowadays because of some advantages over other surgical techniques. In this article, we discuss the fitting of fixed-angle locking volar plates to the distal radius in relation to the changes in the distal radial angles.First, we ...

Firing properties of muscle spindle afferents in the intrinsic foot muscles and tactile afferents from the sole of the foot during upright stance

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 10, Page 1492-1510, October 1, 2025.
Abstract We review our approach for undertaking microelectrode recordings from the posterior tibial nerve at the ankle, which has allowed us to identify, for the first time, the firing properties of muscle spindle endings in the intrinsic muscles of the foot and of cutaneous mechanoreceptors in the sole during unsupported standing.
