Reactivation of Magma Pathways: Insights From Field Observations, Geochronology, Geomechanical Tests, and Numerical Models

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 126, Issue 5, May 2021., 2021
Abstract Field observations and unmanned aerial vehicle surveys from Caldera Taburiente (La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain) show that pre‐existing dykes can capture and re‐direct younger ones to form multiple dyke composites. Chill margins suggest that the older dykes were solidified and cooled when this occurred.

A New Sulfur and Carbon Degassing Inventory for the Southern Central American Volcanic Arc: The Importance of Accurate Time‐Series Data Sets and Possible Tectonic Processes Responsible for Temporal Variations in Arc‐Scale Volatile Emissions

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 18, Issue 12, Page 4437-4468, December 2017., 2017
Abstract This work presents a new database of SO2 and CO2 fluxes from the Southern Central American Volcanic Arc (SCAVA) for the period 2015–2016. We report ∼300 SO2 flux measurements from 10 volcanoes and gas ratios from 11 volcanoes in Costa Rica and Nicaragua representing the most extensive available assessment of this ∼500 km arc segment.

Turmoil at Turrialba Volcano (Costa Rica): Degassing and eruptive processes inferred from high‐frequency gas monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 121, Issue 8, Page 5761-5775, August 2016., 2016
Abstract Eruptive activity at Turrialba Volcano (Costa Rica) has escalated significantly since 2014, causing airport and school closures in the capital city of San José. Whether or not new magma is involved in the current unrest seems probable but remains a matter of debate as ash deposits are dominated by hydrothermal material.

A Constrained 3D Density Model of the Upper Crust from Gravity Data Interpretation for Central Costa Rica

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geophysics, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
The map of complete Bouguer anomaly of Costa Rica shows an elongated NW‐SE trending gravity low in the central region. This gravity low coincides with the geographical region known as the Cordillera Volcánica Central. It is built by geologic and morpho‐tectonic units which consist of Quaternary volcanic edifices.
