Seismic Tremor as a Precursor to Hydrothermal Explosions Near Mutnovsky Volcano (Kamchatka)

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract Mutnovsky Volcano, ∼70 km SW of Petropavlovsk‐Kamchatsky, exhibits persistent degassing, hosts active hydrothermal springs and the Mutnovsky Geothermal Power Plant (MGPP) on its slopes. Using the network covariance matrix approach, we analyzed seismic data recorded in 2023–2024 by 15 seismic stations operating around Mutnovsky Volcano.

Locating tremor using stacked products of correlations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2017
We introduce a back‐projection method to locate tremor sources using products of cross‐correlation envelopes of time series between seismic stations.

Very‐Long‐Period Seismic Signals During Lateral Dike Propagation at Piton de La Fournaise Volcano

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract We report a previously undocumented sequence of very long period (VLP) signals preceding the September 2022 eruption at Piton de la Fournaise. These events occurred during lateral magma propagation and exhibit quasi‐periodic sawtooth‐shaped displacement transients.

Automated Detection and Machine Learning‐Based Classification of Seismic Tremors Associated With a Non‐Volcanic Gas Emission (Mefite d’Ansanto, Southern Italy)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
A major aim in the study of crustal fluids is the development of automatic methodologies for monitoring deep‐source, non‐volcanic gas emissions’ spatio‐temporal evolution.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 8, Page 1563-1592, August 2026.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

An experimental study of volcanic tremor driven by magma wagging

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2020
SUMMARYProtracted episodes of 0.5–7 Hz pre-eruptive volcanic tremor (PVT) are common at active stratovolcanoes. Reliable links to processes related to magma movement consequently enable a potential to use properties of PVT as diagnostic eruptive precursors.

Fault‐controlled uplift segmentation and crust–mantle heterogeneity in the topographic evolution of the Sındırgı Segment (Western Anatolia) ruptured during the 2025 M6.1 earthquake sequence

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 8, August 2026.
Swath profile along the Sındırgı Segment. Grey curves show minimum, mean and maximum elevations, and the thick grey line shows elevation‐corrected Moho depth. Coloured circles indicate relative rock uplift from river‐profile inversion while the red curve shows cumulative uplift.

Temporal Changes of Seismic Velocity Caused by Volcanic Activity at Mt. Etna Revealed by the Autocorrelation of Ambient Seismic Noise

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2019
On active volcanoes, ambient noise-based seismic interferometry can be a very useful monitoring tool as it allows to detect very slight variations in seismic velocity associated with magma transported toward the surface.

New 2010 Maule Aftershock Catalog Reveals Structure of the Deep Subduction Interface

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract On 27 February 2010, a Mw 8.8 earthquake occurred near Maule in south‐central Chile. The subsequent rapid deployment of a dense network of seismic stations on land was able to capture the first year of its aftershock sequence. Here, we revisit this data set using picking Artificial Intelligence tools, a 3D velocity model of the region and ...
