Estimation of Vent Radii From Video Recordings and Infrasound Data Analysis: Implications for Vulcanian Eruptions From Sakurajima Volcano, Japan

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
We estimated the vent radius within Showa Crater of Sakurajima volcano from ejection velocity and flow rate of gas‐particle mixtures. The ejection velocity was calculated from video recordings, and the flow rate and volume from infrasound data.

Observations of rapid-fire event tremor at Lascar volcano, Chile

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1996
During the Proyecto de Investigaciòn Sismològica de la Cordillera Occidental (PISCO '94) in the Atacama desert of Northern Chile, a continuously recording broadband seismic station was installed to the NW of the currently active volcano, Lascar.

Deep Long‐Period Earthquakes at Akutan Volcano From 2005 to 2017 Better Track Magma Influxes Compared to Volcano‐Tectonic Earthquakes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Both volcano‐tectonic (VTs) and deep long‐period earthquakes (DLPs) have been documented at Akutan Volcano, Alaska and may reflect different active processes helpful for eruption forecasting. In this study, we perform high‐resolution earthquake detection,

Response of Remote Tropical West Pacific Islands to Climate Variability: A Multiproxy Record From T‐Lake, Palau, Spanning the Early Holocene to Present

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lake sediments are natural archives of past environmental dynamics and how these systems have responded to past climate variability. Sediment geochemistry, governed by local geology and climate processes, is unique to each lake‐catchment and geochemical proxies must be validated for each study site.

Building a Continental‐Scale Geodetic Network: The Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO)

open access: yesPerspectives of Earth and Space Scientists, Volume 7, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract The Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) transformed the use of geodesy in North America to study crustal deformation and plate boundary processes by establishing a continental‐scale, standardized, open‐access geodetic network. Built and operated by UNAVCO between 2003 and 2018 as part of the National Science Foundation (NSF)‐funded EarthScope ...

Subglacial volcano monitoring with fibre-optic sensing: Grímsvötn, Iceland

open access: yesVolcanica, 2023
We present a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) experiment at Grímsvötn, Iceland. This is intended to investigate volcano-microseismicity at Grímsvötn specifically, and to assess the suitability of DAS as a subglacial volcano monitoring tool in general ...

Influence of Site Amplification Approaches in PSRA: Insights From Five Different Cities

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 4, November 2026.
Regional and national seismic hazard models used in probabilistic seismic risk analysis often rely on generalized proxy‐based site terms to account for ground shaking amplification. This can result in coarse representations of site response, which can introduce bias or additional uncertainty in the associated risk results.

Exploring the link between large earthquakes and magma transport at the onset of the Mayotte volcano-seismic crisis

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Géoscience, 2022
The archipelago of Comoros was generally considered a moderately seismic region. However, since May 2018, unusual seismicity has been observed off the east coast of Mayotte Island.

Revealing the Hydrothermal System of La Soufrière Volcano (Guadeloupe) Through Nodal Ambient Noise Tomography

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract La Soufri'ere de Guadeloupe is an active volcano of the Lesser Antilles Volcanic Arc. Its last eruption halted in 1977, yet hydrothermal activity has increased over recent years, raising summit instability hazards. The link between hydrothermal fluids and detachment landslide surfaces is well established and exacerbated by inflation ...

Correction to: Magnitude–frequency distribution of volcanic explosion earthquakes

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2017
Magnitude–frequency distributions of volcanic explosion earthquakes that are associated with occurrences of vulcanian and strombolian eruptions, or gas burst activity, are examined at six active volcanoes.
