A Control Method for Voltage Balancing in Modular Multilevel Converters

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2014
The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is attractive for medium- or high-power applications because of the advantages of its high modularity, availability, and high power quality. The voltage balancing of the floating capacitors in the cascaded submodules of the MMC is a key issue. In this paper, a voltage-balancing control method is proposed.

Thyristors Balancing Voltage Regulator with Boost Voltage

2021 International Ural Conference on Electrical Power Engineering (UralCon), 2021
This paper examines the problems of improving the power supply quality in four-wire distribution networks of 0.4 kV. The reasons leading to the quality deterioration of the electricity supplied to the consumer are considered. −The operation of known voltage regulators providing stabilization and balancing load voltage is analyzed, their advantages and ...

Voltage balance for replacing the kilogram

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1995
The paper gives a short description of the basic principle of work of the ETF Voltage Balances, as well as the measurement procedures enabling the absolute determination of the Volt. We review previous results, and estimate the expected uncertainties for further experiments using the so-called charge-method.

A New Nine-Level Voltage Source Inverter with Capacitor Voltage Balancing

IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018
In this paper, a new nine-level voltage source inverter for medium-voltage high-power applications is proposed. The proposed topology is a combination of the active nested neutral-point clamped inverter and the flying capacitor inverter. A carrier-based sinusoidal pulse width modulation scheme is developed to balance the voltage of the flying ...

Voltage balancing in low voltage distribution networks using Scott transformers

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
A low voltage (LV) radial feeder balancing method using Scott transformers is introduced in the paper. It converts an unbalanced three-phase voltage into a balanced threephase voltage at either a downstream location on the feeder or at a three-phase load supply point.

Voltage-Balancing Method for IGBTs Connected in Series

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2003
This paper presents a new method for balancing voltages of series-connected insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). This method can be implemented only by adding simple circuits to the gate drive system of the IGBTs, and its effect of balancing the IGBT's collector-emitter voltages during the switching transients is remarkable.

BRAVO: Balanced Reliability-Aware Voltage Optimization

2017 IEEE International Symposium on High Performance Computer Architecture (HPCA), 2017
Defining a processor micro-architecture for a targeted productspace involves multi-dimensional optimization across performance, power and reliability axes. A key decision in sucha definition process is the circuit-and technology-driven parameterof the nominal (voltage, frequency) operating point.

Dual-Buck Half-Bridge Voltage Balancer

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2013
Micro-dc grid is a novel power system focused on the development of renewable resources. However, two-wire transmitting power mode is generally accepted in a micro-dc grid, which is usually not suitable for the requirements of the input voltage levels of different power converters and loads.

MMC Capacitor Voltage Decoupling and Balancing Controls

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2015
A Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) control system based on converter energy storage is proposed in this paper for two different control modes: active power and dc voltage. The proposed control system decouples the sub-module (SM) capacitor voltages from the dc bus voltage. One of the practical applications is the management of active redundant SMs. A

New Topology for voltage balancing in railway substations

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2012
Abstract This paper deals with a new technique of voltage unbalance compensation for single phase railway substations. Using the concept of Chopper Controlled Impedance, the authors study the feasibility of an active Steinmetz circuit based on AC choppers.
